Job summary

Northrop Grumman in Sunnyvale, CA, seeks a seasoned engineer to support Navy Power & Propulsion development. You will analyze control systems using models, build multi-physics models, and apply model reduction for controller design.

The role demands strong MATLAB/Simulink skills and a pathway to obtain a Secret clearance. The candidate will work onsite four days weekly, contributing to propulsion and power generation systems for naval platforms.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in STEM with 8+ years of relevant experience, or Master’s/PhD with commensurate experience.
  • Experience in frequency domain analysis and in characterizing system stability.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB and Simulink for modeling and analysis.
  • US citizenship and ability to obtain a Secret clearance.
  • Onsite 4 days a week; remote work is not an option.

Responsibilities

What You’ll get to Do:

Our Sunnyvale site specializes in the development, manufacture, assembly and testing of propulsion and power generation systems for naval surface ships and submarines. The candidate selected will apply their skills to support current and future Navy Power & Propulsion development.

Responsibilities:
  • Analyzing control system performance and requirements using systems models

Basic Qualifications for level T4:
  • Bachelor's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline with 8 years relevant work experience; or Master’s Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 6 years relevant experience; or Ph.D in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in frequency domain analysis.
  • Experience characterizing and analyzing system stability.
  • Experience with block diagrams and linear algebra.
  • Experience with grey-box model validation.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB coding and Simulink modeling.
  • Experience building state space models of multiphysical systems.
  • Experience with numerical methods for solving differential equations.
  • Must be a US citizen.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Secret Clearance.
  • Must be onsite 4 days a week, remote work is not an option for this role.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active US Government Secret clearance.
  • Master's degree or higher in Aerospace, Mechanical, or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Controller tuning experience on real machines.
  • Experience with ModelCenter.
  • Integrate and Explore Familiar with rotordynamic analysis.
  • Familiar with FEA and super elements models.
  • Familiar with electromagnetics.
  • Experience designing weighting functions to meet operating criteria of large, MIMO systems.
  • Performing robust control design.
Primary Level Salary Range:

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
