Job summary

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems seeks a Systems Controls and Simulation Engineer Level 5 for the development and ongoing support of turbine generator systems used in US Navy propulsion and power generation. The role is based in Sunnyvale, CA, with a strict onsite requirement and US citizenship for clearance.

You will analyze control system performance, build multi-physics models, and perform stability and uncertainty analyses while collaborating with the engineering community and customers.

• Experience in frequency domain analysis.
• Experience characterizing and analyzing system stability.
• Proficiency with MATLAB coding and Simulink modeling.

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking Systems Controls and Simulation Engineer Level 5 for the development and ongoing support of new and existing turbine generators used in surface ship and submarine propulsion and power generation systems for the US Navy based out of Sunnyvale, CA.

What You’ll get to Do:

Our Sunnyvale site specializes in the development, manufacture, assembly and testing of propulsion and power generation systems for naval surface ships and submarines. The candidate selected will apply their skills to support current and future Navy Power & Propulsion development.

Basic Qualifications for level T5:

• Bachelor's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline with 12 years relevant work experience


• Master's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 10 years relevant experience


• Ph.D in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 7 years of relevant work experience


• Experience in frequency domain analysis


• Experience characterizing and analyzing system stability


• Experience with block diagrams and linear algebra


• Experience with grey-box model validation


• Proficiency with MATLAB coding and Simulink modeling


• Experience building state space models of multiphysical systems


• Experience with numerical methods for solving differential equations


• Must be a US citizen


• Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

• Active US Government Secret clearance.


• Master's degree or higher in Aerospace, Mechanical, or a closely related engineering discipline.


• Controller tuning experience on real machines


• Experience with ModelCenter Integrate and Explore Familiar with rotordynamic analysis


• Familiar with FEA and super elements models


• Familiar with electromagnetics


• Experience designing weighting functions to meet operating criteria of large, MIMO systems


• Performing robust control design

Primary Level Salary Range:

Primary Level Salary Range: $177,000.00 - $265,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.

Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.

Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.

In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
