Jobtailor in the United States seeks a seasoned Controls Technician to oversee Building Automation Systems, HVAC and instrumentation control work at the Fort Detrick Energy Production Facility and Signal Campus. You will lead maintenance, install, calibrate, and troubleshoot complex systems on-site with a focus on safety and reliability.

The role requires 5+ years in instrument and controls, plus strong hands-on supervision, field coordination, and vendor quality control.

Qualifications

  • Five (5+) years’ related work experience, especially working with instrument controls, HVAC controls, etc.
  • Seven or more (7+) years’ related work experience is a bonus
  • Ability to work on site at the Fort Detrick Energy Production Facility and Signal Campus
  • Extensive knowledge of a variety of electronic or digital controls systems
  • Ability to test and write modifications in multiple languages of systems software
  • Ability to install, repair, maintain, adjust, calibrate, and troubleshoot instrumentation and control systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot boiler, chiller, conditioned emergency power, Building Automation Systems, IT networks, OSI PI Historian, and fire and security controls equipment
  • Ability to install, test, repair, and troubleshooting stand-alone PCs, networked PCs, printers, and other computer peripherals

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all Building Automation Systems, IT Network, OSI PI Historian, and fire and security controls-related equipment and maintenance
  • Supervise and direct preventive maintenance, repair, installation, commissioning, and servicing of controls for boiler, chiller, and conditioned emergency power systems
  • Provide field supervision of plant operations and coordinate Electrician, Lead LPO Mechanic, and 10-hour day-shift maintenance activities
  • Identify maintenance needs and provide controls vendor quality control
  • Supervise the Lead LPO Mechanic, Plant Electrician, and 10-hour day staff
  • Assign work orders with the Assistant Facility Manager and oversee safe, proper task completion
  • Monitor Building Automation System trending reports and alert management to errors that may cause meter-reading errors
  • Diagnose and repair complex control-system malfunctions
  • Disassemble, inspect, test, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and reassemble instruments and control equipment
  • Coordinate activities with facility management, service order managers, and subcontractors
  • Adjust and repair final control mechanisms and calibrate instruments
  • Connect motors, compressors, temperature and humidity controls, and ventilation fans to control panels and power sources
  • Observe gauges and adjust controls for proper operation
  • Replace defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring
  • Provide sketches of field changes and discrepancies for engineering corrections and drawings; assist with job layouts and bid proposals
  • Install, test, repair, and troubleshoot PCs, networked PCs, printers, and computer peripherals

Job description
