A pioneer Federally Qualified Health Center, Open Door provides more than 300,000 patient visits annually and serves nearly 60,000 individual patients who might not otherwise have access. Open Door is currently seeking a Temp - Controller in our Tarrytown center until December 2025, maybe longer! (maternity leave) The Controller has overall responsibility provide day-to-day management of the finance, accounting, purchasing and revenue functions and their teams. Assists community health center with multiple sites. Works with CFO on budgets, grants, and other projects along with supervising accounting, billing and payroll depts.

FINANCIAL OPERATIONS

• Supervise all financial functions, including accounting, payroll, revenue analysis, accounts receivable, accounts payable, budgets, fixed assets, cash management, financial planning, banking relationships, purchasing, investments, and required reporting
• Coordinate the development of operating, foundation, capital, and grant budgets
• Ensure monthly financial and operational reports are prepared on time and reviewed with CFO, including Income and Expense, Balance Sheet, Cashflow Analysis and Departmental Expense Reports
• Prepare analyses of regular monthly reports and review them with CFO, focusing on variance analysis, projections, recommendations for correction, and, where appropriate, solutions to prevent recurrence
• Guide documentation of financial activities and preparation of annual audits by independent Auditor, in addition to documenting business and financial plans for funding agencies
• Advise and assist the CFO in the financial modeling and development of timely and accurate project plans for new grants, sites, and initiatives
• Coordinate budgets for all new ventures and future programs
• Control Cash Management including Projections, follow up on AIR Collections and Cash Disbursements

MANAGEMENT

• Responsible for managing direct reports and their teams
• Adept and flexible in order to encourage a sense of team and community
• Delegating responsibility in a fair and equitable manner
• Provide day-to-day management of monthly deliverables
• Provide continuous developmental feedback to staff including annual performance evaluations
• Acting as the only direct report to the CFO, work closely to establish, implement and monitor annual benchmarks that align with Open Door's vision and business goals
• Oversees training and development of staff to improve quality and efficient work practices
• Direct and manage financial department personnel including goal, development, progress reviews and remuneration
• Responsible to meet ongoing deadlines

COMPLIANCE

• Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and legal regulatory requirements; advise senior management of actions and potential risks
• Oversee internal and external audits, including those of Federal, State and local agencies

COMMUNICATION

• Ensures timely communication of Clinic and department information to department staff through individual, small group, or monthly department meetings. This includes memos, review of policies and so forth.
• Demonstrates ability to function in a culturally sensitive manner within the organization’s philosophy and mission.

PLANNING

• Attends staff meetings, as designated, to ascertain the center’s short- and long-range plans, programs, and goals within areas of responsibility.
• Participates in staff development programs, educational activities, seminars, and training opportunities

COMPLIANCE MANAGEMENT

• Prepare and maintain documentation in compliance with JCAHO standards and applicable city, state, and federal laws

QUALIFICATIONS

• EDUCATION: Masters'Degree in Finance or MBA with specialization in Finance preferred, Bachelor's required
• Knowledge of healthcare finance preferred, in particular Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance experience
• CPA, Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP) or Fellow of HFMA (FHFMA) desirable
• 8-10 years in finance, accounting, and related fields
• 6-8 years leading a department, including experience managing people
• Financial modeling and budgeting experience
• Coaching and mentoring direct reports.
• Exceptionally strong financial analysis and problem-solving skills
• Good understanding of financial systems; proficiency with various financial reporting tools
• Proficiency with MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Access)
• Responsive and comfortable working in a fast-paced, high accountability health care environment
• Outcome focused; able to understand current and changing organizational requirements and provide effective solutions

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Requires manual dexterity and regular hours at a computer keyboard
• Approximately 50% walking/standing and 50% sitting
