Job summary

LHH seeks a Controller for a privately held real estate investment and development organization in Franklin, Tennessee. This full-time role oversees accounting operations, partners with executives and an outsourced team, and drives process modernization, controls, and portfolio reporting in a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years in accounting, strong Yardi experience (system administration a plus), and a background in real estate accounting,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance required.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong experience with Yardi including system administration.
• Real estate accounting background preferred (residential/multifamily/property management).
• Experience managing intercompany accounting, reconciliations, and GL activities.
• Familiarity with construction or job cost accounting is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities and review outsourced financial statements.
• Serve as internal accounting lead for executive leadership.
• Administer Yardi and manage user access.
• Reconcile complex balances including intercompany transactions and support process improvements.
• Review reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and reporting packages.
• Support regulatory and governmental reporting for real estate operations.
• Monitor budgets, construction activity, and development expenditures with Yardi Job Cost.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and special projects.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to improve accounting processes and reporting accuracy.

About the Opportunity

A privately held real estate investment and development organization is seeking a Controller to oversee accounting operations and serve as the primary internal accounting leader. This role will partner closely with executive leadership and an outsourced accounting team while helping modernize processes, strengthen controls, and support a growing real estate portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities and review financial statements prepared by an outsourced accounting team.
• Serve as the internal accounting lead and primary accounting liaison for executive leadership.
• Administer and maintain Yardi, including user access management and day-to-day system oversight.
• Reconcile complex account balances, including intercompany transactions, and support ongoing accounting cleanup and process improvement initiatives.
• Review account reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and financial reporting packages.
• Support compliance with regulatory and governmental reporting requirements related to real estate operations.
• Utilize Yardi Job Cost and related modules to monitor project budgets, construction activity, and development expenditures.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and special projects as needed.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting accuracy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience overseeing month-end close and financial reporting.
• Strong experience with Yardi, including system administration and user management required.
• Background in real estate accounting, preferably residential, multifamily, affordable housing, or property management environments.
• Experience managing intercompany accounting, reconciliations, and general ledger activities.
• Familiarity with construction accounting, project accounting, or job cost tracking is highly preferred.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently in a dynamic environment while collaborating effectively across teams.
