Job summary

BHRS Companies, a Jacksonville, Florida-based integrated real-property services firm, seeks a Controller for Finance & Accounting. Reporting to the President, you will lead GAAP compliance, the close, revenue recognition, and internal controls across multiple entities, with direct access to leadership as the company scales.

This in-office, full-time role offers a base salary of $100,000–$120,000 plus a bonus up to 20%, comprehensive benefits, and a path to broader finance leadership as BHRS

Qualifications

• 3–5 years progressive accounting experience or demonstrated skills and achievement sufficient to substitute.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA exam within 36 months strongly preferred.
• Willingness to sit for the CPA exam within 36 months of hire strongly preferred.
• Construction, real estate development, or project-based services experience required.
• Internal controls experience, including documentation and testing, and experience reviewing the work of others.
• Commitment to continued professional growth in accounting and business finance.

Responsibilities

• Own the month-end close, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation across multiple operating entities.
• Establish and enforce accounting methods, policies, and principles, and maintain the chart of accounts, including entity- and job-level reporting.
• Prepare percentage-of-completion revenue, WIP schedules, and over/under-billing analysis, and reconcile WIP to the general ledger monthly.
• Oversee job costing, change-order accounting, retainage, subcontractor payables, and lien waiver processing.
• Produce management reporting: job- and division-level profitability, contribution margin, overhead allocation, and budget-vs-actual variance analysis.
• Conduct regular analysis of margin performance, expenses, key financial ratios, and profitability, and advise on pricing, budgeting, and investment planning.
• Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and regulatory reporting, plus cash forecasting and liquidity planning.
• Prepare disbursement and capital expenditure requests in line with approval authorities.
• Coordinate with the outside CPA on preparation, review, tax, and audit requests, and prepare reporting packages for external stakeholders.
• Maintain internal controls, including segregation of duties and review of staff work.
• Manage multi-entity accounting, including intercompany transactions.
• Supervise, train, and develop the Staff Accountant.
