Job summary

Johnson Service Group is seeking an experienced Controller to lead accounting and financial reporting for a biotech manufacturing company in Carlsbad, CA. This is a direct-hire, onsite opportunity reporting to the CFO, with a hands‑on leadership style and close collaboration with Operations on costs and profitability.

The role requires 5–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, strong GAAP knowledge, and prior controller-level responsibilities, preferably in manufacturing or regulated

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 5–10+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Experience as Controller, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Manager.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, cost accounting, and internal controls.
• Manufacturing accounting experience preferred.
• Biopharma, life sciences, CDMO, or other regulated manufacturing experience preferred.
• Hands‑on NetSuite experience preferred.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close and financial reporting.
• Oversee general ledger, payroll, cost accounting, inventory accounting, and revenue recognition.
• Maintain and optimize NetSuite, including accounting processes, reporting, workflows, and controls.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis.
• Partner with Operations on manufacturing costs, pricing, customer profitability, and capital expenditures.
• Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Coordinate external audits, tax filings, and financial compliance requirements.
• Provide financial reporting and analysis to the CFO, leadership team, and investors.
• Lead and develop a small accounting and finance team.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, systems, reporting, and financial controls.

Johnson Service Group, has an immediate opportunity for a Controller for a biotech manufacturing company in Carlsbad.

Direct Hire | Onsite | $180 - $200K depending on qualifications.

We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead accounting and financial reporting for a growing life sciences manufacturing organization. Reporting to the CFO, this position will oversee day-to-day accounting operations while partnering closely with leadership and Operations on financial planning, manufacturing costs, profitability, and business decisions.

This is a hands‑on leadership role ideal for someone with strong technical accounting experience who is comfortable working in a growing, fast‑paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close and financial reporting

• Previous Controller, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Manager experience
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, cost accounting, and internal controls
• Manufacturing accounting experience strongly preferred
• Biopharma, life sciences, CDMO, or other regulated manufacturing experience preferred
• Hands‑on NetSuite experience highly preferred
• Strong Microsoft Office skills
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
• Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and partner effectively with senior leadership
