Job summary

Creative Financial Staffing, LLC seeks a Controller for a mission-driven nonprofit in Barrington, RI. You will own accounting operations and collaborate with executive leadership on strategic financial planning.

The role requires a hands-on leader with nonprofit experience, strong GAAP knowledge, and a track record of managing teams through close cycles and audits. Fully onsite with a competitive compensation package including a bonus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Experience as Controller/Director of Finance or similar leadership role.
• Nonprofit accounting experience strongly preferred.
• CPA or advanced degree is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger, month-end close, and financial reporting.
• Prepare financial statements, management reports, and financial analysis.
• Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
• Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards.
• Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and external accounting relationships.
• Partner with executive leadership on financial strategy and long-term planning.
• Monitor financial performance and identify opportunities for operational improvements.
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff while supporting day-to-day accounting activities.

Key Responsibilities for the Controller:

• Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger, month-end close, and financial reporting

• Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills
• Hands-on leadership approach with the ability to work closely with executive management
• CPA or advanced degree is a plus
