Job summary

Talent Edge Recruiting is seeking a Controller for a growing design firm in downtown Nashville, TN. You will own the finance function, partnering with the CFO and leading a hands-on finance team in a high-visibility role.

The position covers the full spectrum of finance: monthly, quarterly, and annual statements, cash reports, modeling, and compliance, with payroll, billing, and banking oversight. Onsite role for local candidates in Nashville.

Qualifications

• 8 to 10 years of accounting and finance experience, with leadership.
• Experience in design, architecture, or luxury construction industries preferred.
• QuickBooks Online experience; Salesforce is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and issue monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and cash reports for management, investors, and auditors.
• Provide financial modeling and analysis to support CFO and executive planning.
• Analyze operational performance, flag negative trends early, and recommend corrective action to protect profitability.
• Ensure compliance with applicable accounting principles and local, state, and federal reporting requirements.
• Oversee the company's finances end to end, including bills, payroll, project expenses, and AP/AR.
• Oversee monthly billing schedules with project directors, confirming what will be billed and whether project splits were completed.
• Complete the final review of payroll to ensure it is timely and accurate.
• Serve as the main contact for banking relationships, including account support and lines of credit.
• Lead the QuickBooks Online integration into the firm's custom database and payroll/expense rules.
• Manage and mentor accounting and finance staff, including development plans.
• Partner with executives on resource allocation and process improvements.

Compensation: $110,000 - $130,000 per year, plus a generous benefits package

About the Opportunity

A growing design firm in downtown Nashville is looking for a Controller to own its finance function. You will work closely with the CFO, who is transitioning toward retirement, and become the trusted finance partner for the leadership team. This is a hands‑on leadership seat for someone ready to step up, build process, and communicate clearly at every level of the business.

What You'll Do

• Prepare and issue monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and cash reports for management, investors, and auditors
• Provide financial modeling and analysis to support CFO and executive planning
• Analyze operational performance, flag negative trends early, and recommend corrective action to protect profitability
• Ensure compliance with applicable accounting principles and local, state, and federal reporting requirements
• Oversee the company's finances end to end, including bills, payroll, project expenses, and AP/AR (the Accounting Manager handles data entry; you provide oversight)
• Oversee monthly billing schedules with project directors, confirming what will be billed and whether project splits were completed
• Complete the final review of payroll to ensure it is timely and accurate
• Serve as the main contact for banking relationships, including account support and lines of credit
• Lead the QuickBooks Online integration into the firm's custom database through completion, with decision‑making authority over the client portal, field requirements, and payroll and expense rules
• Manage and mentor accounting and finance staff, including individual development plans for each team member
• Partner with executives and directors on resource allocation, service needs, and process improvements
• Support a culture of integrity, transparent communication, and continuous learning

What You Bring

• 8 to 10 years of accounting and finance experience, including leadership!
• Design firm, architecture or luxury construction industries are best fit!
• Bachelor's degree is preferred, not required.
• QuickBooks Online experience; Salesforce is a plus
• A steady, confident communicator who builds trust with executives and brings calm and clarity to conversations about money
