Our client is a dynamic membership association in the DC metro area. This Controller role reports directly to the CFO. As a critical member of the team, the Controller oversees the entire accounting and finance operations of the organization.
Core Responsibilities
- Maintain accounting systems, procedures, and methods to ensure accurate recordkeeping, account reporting, and general ledger management.
- Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger, focusing on membership dues and other revenue streams.
- Prepare monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts, including bank reconciliations, investment analyses, and account reviews, promptly resolving discrepancies.
- Prepare weekly cash forecasts and manage cash batching in the AMS.
- Assist with the preparation of the annual audit.
- Develop, implement, and maintain internal financial controls, policies, and procedures to enhance efficiency and manage risk.
- Serve as the staff liaison to organization committees and networking groups as assigned.
- Support the CFO in creating annual budgets, financial forecasts, and long-term financial plans aligned with strategic objectives.
- Assist the CFO with special financial projects, analyses, and reporting as needed.
- Supervise and develop accounting staff, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Perform additional financial and administrative duties as needed to support organizational goals.
Location and Travel
- This is a full-time, in-office position based at the organization's headquarters in Washington, D.C.
- Requires attendance at the office five days per week.
- Travel is required 3–4 times annually for conferences, each lasting 3–5 days.

Job Requirements/Qualifications/Knowledge
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field.
- Experience: 4–6 years of experience in nonprofit or trade association sectors, with demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles and accounting systems.
