Job summary

Hoxton Circle, a premier owner/operator of New York metro retail real estate, seeks an experienced Controller to own the accounting and reporting function. This in-office role reports to the CFO and will guide the finance operation through a period of transition and growth.

You will lead the move to accrual-based monthly reporting, manage GL, AP/AR, payroll, fixed assets, and multi-entity statements, and supervise a small team while coordinating audits and tax with external partners.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 5 years in a senior accounting management role.
• Experience helping transition an organization from cash basis accounting to an accrual-based model.

Responsibilities

• Lead the transition from cash-basis to full accrual-basis monthly financial reporting, including designing the close process, closing calendar, and standardized reporting package at both the property and consolidated level.
• Direct all core accounting operations, including general ledger, AP/AR, cash management, payroll oversight, fixed assets, and multi-entity/partnership financial statements.
• Oversee commercial real estate accounting, including retail lease accounting, tenant improvements allowances, and leasing commissions.
• Lead annual budgeting and forecasting, manage banking/treasury, monitor debt compliance, and coordinate audits and tax with external partners, while supervising a small accounting team.

Job description

Our client, a well-established owner and operator of premier retail real estate assets in the New York metro area, is seeking an experienced, hands‑on Controller to lead its accounting and financial reporting function. The company recently welcomed a new CFO and is building out a stronger internal finance operation, reducing reliance on outside accounting support. This is a high‑impact, in‑office role reporting directly to the CFO, with real ownership over the accounting function during a period of active transition and growth.

Note this role works 5 days onsite.

What You'll Be Doing

• Lead the transition from cash-basis to full accrual-basis monthly financial reporting, including designing the close process, closing calendar, and standardized reporting package at both the property and consolidated level.
• Direct all core accounting operations, including general ledger, AP/AR, cash management, payroll oversight, fixed assets, and multi‑entity/partnership financial statements.
• Oversee commercial real estate specific accounting, including retail lease administration, tenant improvement allowances, and leasing commissions.
• Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process, managing banking and treasury relationships, monitoring debt compliance, and coordinating audit and tax activity with external partners, while supervising and developing a small accounting team.
