Ideal candidates bring US GAAP expertise, QuickBooks experience, and a track record of leading accounting in small tech or services firms. CPA preferred; base salary ~180k with bonus potential; US work authorization required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• CPA strongly preferred.
• Experience managing accounting operations in a small tech, software, or services company.
• Knowledge of US GAAP and payroll, cash management, and monthly close.

Responsibilities

• Manage all day-to-day accounting operations including general ledger, bank reconciliations, cash management, payroll, and monthly close.
• Maintain accurate financial records in QuickBooks and deliver timely financial statements to the CEO.
• Oversee sales tax filings, regulatory compliance, and audit readiness.
• Manage accounting for software development cost capitalization, deferred revenue, accruals, and one-time adjustments.
• Reconcile results against budget, identify variances, and provide reporting.
• Establish accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Coordinate with external tax and audit advisors and support due diligence.

Professional Search by Kingsley Gate is seeking a Controller on behalf of our client, a technology-driven financial services company. This hands-on role will oversee the full accounting function, including financial reporting, cash management, payroll, monthly close, and regulatory compliance. Reporting directly to the CEO, this individual will take full ownership of accounting operations within a lean, entrepreneurial environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage all day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, bank reconciliations, cash management, payroll, and monthly close.
• Maintain accurate financial records in QuickBooks and deliver timely financial statements to the CEO.
• Oversee sales tax filings, regulatory compliance, and ongoing audit readiness.
• Manage accounting for software development cost capitalization, deferred revenue, accruals, and one-time adjustments.
• Reconcile financial results against budget, identify variances, and provide actionable reporting.
• Establish accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
• Coordinate with external tax and audit advisors and support financial due diligence activities.

Ideal Background

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA strongly preferred.
• Experience independently managing accounting operations within a small technology, software, or services company.
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP, QuickBooks, monthly close, payroll, and cash management.
• Experience with software accounting, development-cost capitalization, and multi-state sales tax compliance.
• Familiarity with expense management platforms such as Ramp.
• Prior M&A or financial due diligence experience is a plus.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently in a hands-on accounting role.

Compensation Target

$180K base + 20K bonus target, based on experience
