Job summary

turbopuffer is seeking a Controller (based in Canada) to evolve the finance function within a fast-growing startup. You will own month-end close, lead a major ERP migration to an AI-native platform, and coordinate AI-driven finance workflows while overseeing global payroll and multi-country compliance.

You will work closely with the CFO, drive forecasting, and manage billing operations with a focus on audit readiness and robust internal controls.

Qualifications

• CPA with deep US GAAP accounting experience, ideally from an audited environment.
• Progressive experience at high-growth tech startups.
• Ability to rapidly shift context and rebalance priorities.
• Proven track record deploying AI agents to automate tasks.

Responsibilities

• Own month-end close, reporting, variance analysis, and memo prep.
• Lead ERP migration to an AI-native platform and oversee config.
• Expand AI orchestration for finance to automate repeatable work.
• Be the billing systems lead and oversee billing operations daily.
• Oversee multi-country payroll, benefits, commissions, and equity.
• Coordinate with external providers for global tax compliance.
• Maintain audit-ready controls and supporting memos.
• Coordinate agents to execute transactional accounting.
• Collaborate on financial planning and rolling forecasts.
• Tackle ad hoc projects as they arise.

turbopuffer is looking for a Controller (based in Canada) who wants to evolve the finance function at a fast growing startup. This year we're migrating our ERP to an AI-native platform, rebuilding our billing stack, and putting agents to work across all of our projects. You'll be working directly with our CFO.

what you'll do:

• own month end close and reporting including variance analysis & statement prep
• lead our ERP migration to an AI native platform; full oversight over system design & config
• expand the AI orchestration layer for finance → repeatable work goes to agents
• become our default billing systems lead, you'll oversee billing ops day to day
• oversee multi-country payroll and benefits, commissions and equity management
• coordinate w/ external providers to ensure global corporate and sales tax compliance
• maintain an audit ready posture while ensuring appropriate controls & memos are in place
• coordinate agents to run but ultimately own transactional accounting
• collaborate on financial planning and maintain rolling forecasts
• roll up your sleeves and dive in to various ad hoc projects…no shortage of those

must have:
