Job summary

Sensei Ag is seeking a hands-on Controller with a strong cost accounting background to strengthen financial rigor, processes, controls, reporting, and analysis. The role reports to the SVP, Accounting & Finance and is fully remote, with experience in production environments valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• CPA required with 10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience.
• Experience as Controller or senior accounting leader.
• Strong NetSuite experience and cost accounting background.
• Proven ability to strengthen internal controls and streamline processes.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a trusted financial advisor to the SVP, Accounting & Finance.
• Lead the month-end and year-end close and prepare and review monthly financial statements, management reporting, and financial analysis.
• Ensure accounting practices and financial reporting comply with U.S. GAAP.
• Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, inventory, accruals, and reconciliations.
• Establish and maintain appropriate accounting policies, procedures, and documentation.
• Support annual audits, tax filings, and other external financial reporting requirements.
• Lead and improve cost accounting processes, including product costing, inventory valuation, labor and overhead allocation, and COGS.
• Analyze production costs, margins, variances, and operational performance and provide actionable insights to management.
• Partner with operations to improve cost visibility, financial accountability, and operational performance.
• Develop, document, and implement strong internal controls and approval processes.
• Serve as the key finance owner of NetSuite, including evaluating configuration, reporting, workflows, controls, and overall utilization.
• Evaluate and improve financial systems, processes, and workflows, including opportunities for automation and integration.
• Partner with IT and other departments to ensure financial systems effectively support operational and reporting needs.
• Lead, develop, and support the accounting team.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial planning.

We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Controller with a strong Cost Accounting background to strengthen the company’s financial rigor, processes, controls, reporting, and analysis to support business decision-making and operational excellence.This position reports to the SVP, Accounting & Finance and is fully remote. Prior experience in Agriculture, Biotech, Manufacturing, or another production/inventory-intensive environment is a strong plus.

Skills and Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Strong technical accounting foundation and knowledge of GAAP. CPA required.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including Controller or senior accounting leadership experience.
• Strong NetSuite experience.
• Strong cost accounting experience.
• Demonstrated experience developing and strengthening internal controls.
• Proven ability to streamline processes and improve financial systems.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
• Hands-on, proactive approach with the ability to work at both the detailed accounting level and strategically across the organization.
