Job summary

Sensei Ag is seeking a hands-on Controller with a strong cost accounting background to strengthen financial rigor, processes, controls, reporting, and analysis in support of business decisions. This fully remote role reports to the SVP, Accounting & Finance and favors experience in production/inventory-intensive environments.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Strong GAAP knowledge; CPA required.
• 10+ years in accounting/finance with controller or senior leadership.

Responsibilities

• Serve as trusted financial advisor to the SVP, Accounting & Finance.
• Lead monthly and annual close; prepare financial statements and analyses.
• Ensure GAAP-compliant reporting.
• Oversee GL, AP, AR, fixed assets, inventory, accruals, reconciliations.
• Establish and maintain accounting policies and documentation.
• Support audits, tax filings, and external reporting.
• Lead cost accounting: product costing, inventory, labor/overhead, COGS.
• Analyze production costs, margins, variances, and performance.
• Partner with operations to improve cost visibility and accountability.
• Develop, document, and implement strong internal controls and approvals.
• Serve as the key finance owner of NetSuite, including configuration, reporting, workflows, controls.
• Evaluate and improve financial systems, processes, and workflows.
• Partner with IT and other departments to support operational/reporting needs.
• Lead, develop, and support the accounting team.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial planning.

We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Controller with a strong Cost Accounting background to strengthen the company’s financial rigor, processes, controls, reporting, and analysis to support business decision‑making and operational excellence. This position reports to the SVP, Accounting & Finance and is fully remote. Prior experience in Agriculture, Biotech, Manufacturing, or another production/inventory-intensive environment is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a trusted financial advisor to the SVP, Accounting & Finance.


• Lead the month‑end and year‑end close and prepare and review monthly financial statements, management reporting, and financial analysis.


• Ensure accounting practices and financial reporting comply with U.S. GAAP.


• Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, inventory, accruals, and reconciliations.


• Establish and maintain appropriate accounting policies, procedures, and documentation.


• Support annual audits, tax filings, and other external financial reporting requirements.


• Lead and improve cost accounting processes, including product costing, inventory valuation, labor and overhead allocation, and COGS.


• Analyze production costs, margins, variances, and operational performance and provide actionable insights to management.


• Partner with operations to improve cost visibility, financial accountability, and operational performance.


• Develop, document, and implement strong internal controls and approval processes.


• Serve as the key finance owner of NetSuite, including evaluating configuration, reporting, workflows, controls, and overall utilization.


• Evaluate and improve financial systems, processes, and workflows, including opportunities for automation and integration.


• Partner with IT and other departments to ensure financial systems effectively support operational and reporting needs.


• Lead, develop, and support the accounting team.


• Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial planning.

Skills and Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.


• Strong technical accounting foundation and knowledge of GAAP. CPA required.


• 10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including Controller or senior accounting leadership experience.


• Strong cost accounting experience.


• Demonstrated experience developing and strengthening internal controls.


• Proven ability to streamline processes and improve financial systems.


• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, communication, and leadership skills.


• Hands‑on, proactive approach with the ability to work at both the detailed accounting level and strategically across the organization.
