Job summary

The Quest Organization seeks a hands-on Controller to manage day-to-day accounting, financial reporting, and cash management for a portfolio of commercial real estate entities. You will lead monthly closes, prepare financial statements, and oversee payroll across multiple entities, partnering closely with the CFO.

Ideal candidates have 7+ years in accounting, strong GAAP knowledge, and CRE experience, including multi-entity and intercompany reconciliations, with CPA preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
  • Commercial real estate accounting experience required; operating company and multi-entity accounting experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, payroll, reconciliations, and general ledger accounting.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks and Excel; Yardi Breeze experience preferred.
  • Highly organized, analytical, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Hands-on leader comfortable working in both detailed accounting functions and a Controller-level role.

Responsibilities

  • Manage full-cycle accounting, including journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, depreciation, and monthly close.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for multiple entities.
  • Maintain multi-entity accounting and reconcile intercompany transactions and related-party balances.
  • Perform and review bank, debt, escrow, reserve, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Oversee commercial real estate accounting, including tenant activity, lease transactions, CAM reconciliations, property taxes, insurance, and capital expenditures.
  • Manage accounting for operating companies, including AP, AR, revenue, fixed assets, and operating expenses.
  • Oversee payroll processing, payroll taxes, benefits deductions, and related accounting.
  • Monitor cash balances, debt payments, and liquidity needs; assist with cash forecasting.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, audits, tax preparation, lender reporting, and ownership reporting.
  • Supervise accounting staff and improve accounting processes, internal controls, and systems.

Job description

This hands-on role oversees monthly close, financial statement preparation, payroll, multi-entity accounting, and accounting staff while partnering closely with the CFO.

Key Responsibilities
