Job description

Controller Own the Numbers. All of Them. Full-Time | Remote or Hybrid | Florida Candidates Only | $110,000-$120,000 + 20% bonus (paid quarterly)

All Controller titles come with an asterisk—you manage a team, you review someone else’s work, you own a slice of the function. This one is different. You will be the entire accounting operation for a company with 100+ years of history, and leadership will look to you (and only you) for the financial truth. If you’ve built excellence in both sides of accounting—hands‑on execution and strategic leadership—this is a rare role where both matter every day. If you’re tired of companies that treat finance as an afterthought, you’ll find the opposite here: ownership wants a true financial partner and is ready to invest in one.

WHY THIS ROLE STANDS OUT

Total ownership—no committees, no layers, no waiting for approval to fix what you know is broken. You build the processes, you set the standards, you own the results. A blank canvas with real support—this company has never operated with formal budgets; you will build them from the ground up and become the person leadership relies on to decide where to scale and where to pull back.

Room to grow with the business—this role won’t stay static; as you bring structure to the finances, your scope and influence grow, and ownership wants someone who will help shape the next chapter (not just close the books on the last one).

Stability you can plan a life around—100+ years of history, a healthy business, and ownership looking for someone to grow with them long term; this is a destination role, not a stepping stone.

Respect for how you work—flexible PTO, remote or hybrid flexibility, and a culture that trusts professionals to manage their own time.

WHAT YOU WILL OWN
  • Full accounting cycle—run AR and AP end-to-end: invoicing, billing, collections, vendor management, and payment processing; keep receivables tight, follow up on past‑due accounts early, and ensure leadership is never surprised.
  • Payroll—accurate, on time, and fully compliant with federal, state, and local regulations; maintain payroll records, manage deductions, handle inquiries, and reconcile payroll accounts.
  • Daily accounting and reconciliations—daily data entry done right the first time; regular reconciliations across bank, credit card, and general ledger accounts; maintain a general ledger and chart of accounts you’d be proud to show an auditor anytime.
  • Financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting—monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; full ownership of month‑end and year‑end close; budgets built from scratch with actuals reported against them; forecasts that show where the business is headed with clear recommendations.
  • Banking and external relationships—primary point of contact with banks (credit lines and rates) and coordination with external CPA firm/auditors to keep tax preparation and audit readiness on track.
  • Process and structure—build repeatable processes and internal controls where little exists today, then teach the broader team what good financial discipline looks like.
  • QuickBooks administration—serve as the in‑house QuickBooks authority: setup, maintenance, reporting, troubleshooting, data integrity, and best practices.
WHO THRIVES IN THIS ROLE
  • 10+ years of progressive, hands‑on accounting experience (hands‑on is the key word).
  • Background includes companies in the $5M-$30M revenue range where you personally did the work (not just reviewed it).
  • If your experience is limited to large organizations with deep accounting departments, this role will not be a fit—by design.
  • Expert in QuickBooks (Desktop or Online)—non‑negotiable.
  • Strong GAAP knowledge, strong Excel skills, and a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA is a plus, not required.
  • No ego about the work—data entry in the morning, leadership forecasting in the afternoon, and you take satisfaction in both.
  • Clear communicator, self‑managed deadline owner (no chasing required), and you want to plant roots somewhere that values what you bring.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Base salary: $110,000-$120,000

Performance‑based bonus: 20% (paid quarterly)

  • Comprehensive health benefits package
  • Flexible paid time off
  • Remote or hybrid work arrangement
