Job description

A growing, multi-state organization in the landscape, construction, and field services industry is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Regional Controller / FP&A professional to oversee accounting operations across multiple regional locations.

Reporting directly to the Corporate Controller, this individual will play a critical role in strengthening the company's financial infrastructure, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, and supporting continued growth through scalable and standardized accounting practices.

The ideal candidate is a highly skilled accounting and finance professional with extensive general ledger experience, multi-entity and multi-location accounting expertise, and a proven ability to lead process improvements. This individual will also play a key role in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and the continued development and optimization of the company's accounting systems and reporting structure.

A digital-first mindset is essential. The successful candidate will be comfortable leveraging technology, automation, ERP systems, and business intelligence tools to streamline processes, improve reporting, and create greater visibility into business performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations across multiple regional locations and states, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and compliance with company policies and GAAP.
• Manage and reconcile complex general ledger accounts, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial information.
• Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes and ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and financial analyses.
• Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of a scalable Chart of Accounts that supports multi-location financial reporting, operational needs, and long-term financial planning.
• Partner with the Corporate Controller and finance leadership to standardize accounting processes and establish best practices across all operating locations.
• Support the implementation, optimization, and ongoing administration of accounting systems, ERP platforms, and financial workflows.
• Monitor and reconcile intercompany transactions and ensure appropriate accounting between operating entities and regional locations.
• Prepare monthly financial statements, variance analyses, management reports, and other financial information for executive leadership.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, company policies, and applicable federal and state regulations.
• Coordinate annual audits and provide required schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation to external auditors.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and strategic analysis initiatives.
• Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls designed to promote accuracy, consistency, scalability, and operational efficiency.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, system enhancements, and more efficient financial workflows.
• Mentor and support accounting staff across multiple locations while promoting consistency, accountability, and professional development.
• Partner closely with Operations, Construction, Maintenance, Procurement, Human Resources, and Executive Leadership to improve financial visibility and support informed decision-making.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field required.
• CPA designation strongly preferred.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including significant experience supporting multi-entity, multi-location, or geographically distributed operations.
• Extensive experience with general ledger accounting, financial statement preparation, account reconciliations, and month-end close.
• Experience developing, restructuring, or optimizing a Chart of Accounts within an ERP or enterprise accounting system.
• Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, financial reporting, and accounting best practices.
• Experience supporting accounting system implementations, ERP conversions, or financial system integrations is highly desirable.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, complex formulas, and financial modeling.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and geographically dispersed teams.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience within landscaping, construction, facilities services, field services, or another project-based or multi-location industry.
• Experience developing financial reporting structures and accounting processes for multi-state operations.
• Familiarity with job costing, fixed assets, sales and use tax, and operational accounting.
• Experience with Microsoft Power BI or other business intelligence and reporting tools.
• Knowledge of payroll integrations and multi-state accounting requirements.
• Experience working with operational or industry-specific ERP and financial management systems.
• Ability to work effectively in a professional office and remote environment.
• Occasional travel to regional offices and operating locations, approximately 10%.
• Ability to spend extended periods working with financial systems, reports, spreadsheets, and other technology platforms.
• Comfortable conducting training sessions and participating in cross-functional meetings with leaders and employees across multiple locations.
• Base Salary: $140,000–$160,000 annually, depending on experience
