Descripción del empleo

Northeast San Antonio, TX (fully on site)

Comp: $130-$140k+ Bonus

Schedule: Monday to Friday, roughly 8 to 5, with flexibility for occasional personal needs

Our client is a privately held, internationally headquartered life sciences manufacturer operating in a highly regulated, FDA-overseen space. Most of its operations, revenue and headcount sit in its US subsidiary in San Antonio.

This is a lean, mid-sized organization where finance has a real seat at the table. The group reports under IFRS and carries external debt with covenant reporting. While the company is established, they still operate somewhat as a start-up where not every process is in place. Leadership is actively investing in AI tools across finance & the ideal candidate will have some exposure or experience with them!

About the Controller:

This is the senior finance leader in the US and the main counterpart to group finance leadership overseas. You will own the integrity of the US numbers. That runs from transactional accuracy and inventory costing on the manufacturing floor through to IFRS reporting and lender covenant compliance.

The role is broad and hands-on. You will lead a team of four. You will also stay close enough to the detail to review a reconciliation, question a yield variance, or build a forecast model yourself.

The company wants someone who brings fresh eyes and a "how can we help" mindset. You will improve processes, build trust with operations, and help the finance team grow alongside the business.

Key responsibilities of the Controller:
  • Own the monthly close and reporting for the US subsidiary under group IFRS policy, including intercompany and FX. Consolidation is handled by group finance.
  • Deliver monthly management accounts on deadline, with clear commentary on performance, variances and trends.
  • Apply group accounting policies consistently, including revenue recognition under IFRS 15 (consignment, distributor arrangements, service fees), leases and financial instruments.
  • Flag new transactions or business changes that could affect accounting treatment.
Close and financial control
  • Drive a faster, cleaner, more predictable month-end close.
  • Make sure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled, reviewed and signed off monthly.
  • Review and approve journals, accruals, provisions and reserves, and step in on the transactional work when needed.
  • Own the fixed asset register and capex approval process.
  • Design, document and enforce internal controls, SOPs, segregation of duties and approval matrices.
Audit, lender and compliance
  • Lead the US external audit: timetable, PBC schedules, trial balances and auditor questions.
  • Prepare or oversee US statutory financial statements.
  • Prepare the periodic lender reporting pack, including covenant compliance and forward-looking headroom.
  • Keep finance processes aligned with regulatory and quality requirements, especially inventory traceability, scrap and destruction records.
Inventory, costing and margin
  • Own inventory valuation and COGS.
  • Oversee the standard costing model run by the Cost Accountant: labor rates, overhead absorption, BOMs and routings.
  • Maintain reserves for excess, obsolete, expired and quarantined stock.
  • Analyze yield, discard and utilization rates, and turn them into margin insight by product line, customer and channel.
Planning, cash and tax
  • Lead the annual US budget and maintain a rolling cash flow forecast.
  • Manage working capital, banking relationships, debt service and foreign currency exposure in line with group policy.
  • Manage US federal and state tax compliance with external advisers, including Texas franchise tax and multi-state nexus.
  • Support transfer pricing between the parent company and the US subsidiary.
Systems, data and AI
  • Own the ERP from a finance standpoint: chart of accounts, master data, close routines and user access.
  • Build reporting out of the ERP to cut manual spreadsheet work.
  • Lead practical AI adoption in finance (reconciliations, variance commentary, invoice processing, forecasting), with the right controls for accuracy, confidentiality and audit trail.
Leadership and partnering
  • Lead, develop and mentor a team of four, and help shape a positive, service-minded finance culture.
  • Serve as the senior finance partner to operations, quality and supply chain on pricing, capacity, capex and new products.
  • Translate the numbers into plain language that non-finance leaders can act on.
  • Deputize for group finance leadership when needed, including with the board and lenders.
What we're looking for in a Controller:
  • CPA with about 5+ years of post-qualification experience. A public accounting (Audit) and industry mix is strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on experience in an inventory-heavy manufacturing or processing environment, including standard costing, absorption, variance analysis and COGS ideal.
  • Experience leading an external audit and owning statutory reporting.
  • Proven people leadership, including developing a small team and setting standards.
  • A track record of building processes and writing SOPs, not only working inside established ones.
  • Solid mid-market or tier-one ERP experience, with the credibility to own it.
  • Advanced Excel, including complex modeling, Power Query, PivotTables, lookup and array functions, and scenario analysis. You can build a cash flow or covenant model from a blank sheet.
  • Practical use of AI tools in finance, or a real eagerness to lead adoption.
  • Strong communication skills, especially explaining financials to non-finance partners.
Strongly preferred
  • IFRS experience. Strong US GAAP candidates who are quick learners and can pick up IFRS will be considered.
  • Lender or covenant reporting, or similar reporting to an external capital provider.
  • Experience with international or multinational companies.
Nice to have
  • Experience in medical devices, biologics, pharmaceuticals or another FDA-regulated environment.
  • Sage ERP experience (Sage X3 in particular), or experience implementing or upgrading an ERP.
  • Texas franchise tax and multi-state sales and use tax experience.
  • Experience in a founder-led, private equity-backed or leveraged business.
  • Power BI, SQL or Python for reporting and automation.
Who thrives here
  • Driven, hungry and eager to keep learning and grow with the company.
  • Team-first and service-minded. Asks "how can we help" instead of pointing fingers.
  • Self-directed and organized, comfortable working across a 6-hour time difference with leadership.
  • Hands-on. Will do the reconciliation when it needs doing.
  • Commercially curious about why the margin moved, not only that it moved.
  • Calm and credible with operations leaders, auditors and lenders.
  • High integrity and controls-minded in a business where documentation and traceability are non-negotiable.

Compensation, benefits and process

Compensation and benefits
  • Base salary of $130K to $140K, with flexibility for an exceptional candidate
  • Performance-based annual bonus of 10% to 15%
  • 3 weeks of PTO plus holidays, and 1 additional week of sick leave

The client aims to have someone in seat before the December year-end. Interviews will move quickly!

This is a confidential search managed by Core6 Talent. The client's name will be shared with qualified candidates after an initial conversation.
