Job summary

BTI Security seeks a Controller to lead the Finance Department and oversee all accounting functions, reporting directly to the CEO. The candidate will manage close processes, implement controls, and mentor a team of accountants in a government contracting environment.

The role requires at least 7 years of progressive accounting experience, strong leadership, and experience with WinTeam or similar software. This is a full-time, on-site position in Rockville, MD.

Key Responsibilities & Duties
  • Oversee the day-to-day accounting operations, including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting principles.
  • Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process, ensuring timely and accurate preparation of financial statements.
  • Monitor and analyze financial data, providing insightful reports and recommendations to the CEO and executive team to support decision-making.
  • Develop and implement financial controls and procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and accounting standards.
  • Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals, providing guidance, training, and support to promote their professional growth and enhance departmental performance.
  • Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and government agencies for audits, tax filings, and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline accounting processes, identify opportunities for process improvements, and implement best practices.
  • Manage cash flow, budgeting, and forecasting activities to support effective financial planning and resource allocation.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in accounting regulations and industry trends, ensuring compliance and recommending necessary adjustments to accounting practices.
  • Assist in special projects, financial analyses, and ad hoc reporting as required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field. A professional accounting designation (CPA, CMA, or equivalent) is highly preferred.
  • A minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible accounting experience, demonstrating career growth within the field of accountancy.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and regulations, with experience in financial reporting, general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and payroll.
  • Experience with WinTeam or similar accounting software is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience in the Government Contracting environment is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Excellent leadership and managerial skills, with the ability to mentor and motivate a team.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Key Performance Indicators
  • Days to Close: Number of business days required to close the books and submit finalized financial reports to management and regulatory authorities at the end of the accounting period (monthly/quarterly/yearly).
  • Finance Error Rate: The amount of information that requires clarification or contain obvious errors.
  • Billing/Payment Error Rate: The percentage of incoming or outgoing payments that were not completed due to a processing error.
