Job summary

Confidential Manufacturing Employer in the Richmond, VA area is seeking a Controller to oversee accounting and financial operations on-site. The role includes managing the general ledger, supervising month-end and year-end close, and delivering accurate financial statements for leadership.

Responsibilities also cover budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, cost and inventory accounting within a manufacturing setting, plus maintaining internal controls and coordinating with external auditors.

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in accounting and finance including general ledger, financial reporting, and budgeting.
• Experience in cost accounting, inventory accounting, and manufacturing-related financial processes.
• Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems, plus advanced spreadsheet and data analysis skills.
• Knowledge of GAAP, SOX, and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Experience leading accounting staff with delegation and supervision skills.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities, with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
• Ability to work on-site in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, collaborating cross-functionally with operations and leadership.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification is strongly preferred.
• Relevant experience as a Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar leadership role in manufacturing or industrial settings.

Role Description

The Controller is a full-time, on-site position based in Richmond, VA, responsible for overseeing the organization’s accounting and financial operations. Day-to-day duties include managing the general ledger, supervising month-end and year-end close, and preparing accurate financial statements and reports for leadership. The role also involves budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis, as well as monitoring cost accounting and inventory-related financial activities typical in a manufacturing environment. The Controller will implement and maintain internal controls, ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations, and coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors. This position partners with operations and leadership to provide financial insights that support strategic decisions, process improvements, and long-term profitability.
