Responsibilities

• Oversee all US based financial and accounting operations.
• Prepare timely and accurate financial statements according to U.S. GAAP.
• Lead budgeting and forecasting processes.
• Manage month-end and year-end close processes.
• Lead annual budgeting and monthly forecasting processes, analyzing financial performance and deliver actionable recommendations to leadership.
• Monitor and analyze variances, providing recommendations to improve margins, labor efficiency, and fleet ROI.
• Support pricing strategies for services, rentals, and specialty equipment.
• Evaluate cost drivers such as overtime, fuel, repairs/maintenance, and seasonal staffing.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to DOT, construction, and transportation.
• Oversee multi-state payroll compliance, workers’ compensation reporting, and tax filings.
• Manage audits (financial, workers’ comp, insurance, DOT) and maintain strong internal controls.
• Monitor cash flow to support payroll-intensive field operations.
• Oversee customer billing, collections, and revenue recognition for both service and rental contracts.
• Manage vendor relationships, and banking operations.
• Support transition over to a new ERP system.
• Help to develop standardized reporting out of the new ERP system to improve visibility and efficiency within operations.

Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Director of Finance based in Canada, the Controller oversees all US based financial and accounting operations for a group of traffic control companies specializing in flagging services, traffic management, lane closures, equipment rentals and related field operations. This individual will provide timely financial reporting, establish and maintain effective internal controls, ensure compliance with local and federal tax authorities, provide monthly financial analysis and will be involved in transitioning over to a new ERP system.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidated US financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP and report results to the head office in Canada
• Partner with operations and project management teams for accurate job costing and profitability analysis
• Perform and maintain detailed monthly intercompany reconciliations
• Manage month-end and year-end close processes

Budgeting, Forecasting & Cost Control

• Lead annual budgeting and monthly forecasting processes, analyzing financial performance and deliver actionable recommendations to leadership.
