your impact @ starface

Starface is seeking a Controller to lead and strengthen our accounting function as we enter our next stage of growth. In this role, you’ll report directly to our SVP, Head of Finance, oversee the accounting team, and own the function across close, reporting, audits, controls, systems, external partnerships, and team development.

You’ll inherit strong building blocks, talented partners, and meaningful opportunities to improve how the work gets done. Your mandate will be to bring critical workstreams current, create more reliable and scalable processes, and build a clear roadmap for the accounting organization Starface needs as we continue to grow.

The right person for this role is an experienced, hands‑on accounting leader who has successfully stepped into complex or evolving environments, created order from ambiguity, and led teams through periods of growth or transformation. You’re technically strong, comfortable rolling up your sleeves, and confident partnering with executives, auditors, advisors, and investors.

At Starface, we find fun, lead with care, aim high, stay curious, and move forward. We welcome an attitude of exploration into the bold and creative in all that we do (even accounting, if applicable and compliant!). If you are an adaptable accounting leader who sees a complicated problem and immediately starts mapping the way forward, and all of this resonates with you so far, please keep reading!

we’ll count on you to
  • Lead the full accounting function, including the monthly close, general ledger, reconciliations, financial reporting, consolidation, accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory accounting, and technical accounting.
  • Quickly assess the current state of the function, team, systems, open workstreams, and key risks, while identifying immediate opportunities to improve accuracy, accountability, and efficiency.
  • Bring outstanding audits, covenant reporting, reconciliations, tax‑related workstreams, and other critical external deliverables fully current.
  • Establish a reliable and well‑controlled close process, with clear timelines, ownership, documentation, and reporting standards.
  • Lead relationships with external auditors, accountants, tax advisors, and other partners, serving as Starcraft’s primary accounting subject‑matter expert and point of accountability.
  • Build and begin executing a practical roadmap for improving accounting processes, controls, systems, documentation, and team structure.
  • Own accounting systems and tools, including NetSuite, and partner with Operations and Systems to ensure cross‑functional decisions support accurate and efficient financial processes.
  • Evaluate the accounting team’s structure, capabilities, and capacity, develop existing talent, and recommend future hiring priorities.
  • Manage and coach the accounting team, establishing clear expectations, strong operating rhythms, and opportunities for growth.
  • Partner closely with the SVP of Finance on priorities, risks, decisions, and communication with executive leadership and the Board.
  • Strengthen Starface’s readiness for future financing, investment, diligence, or M&A activity by ensuring our accounting records, controls, reporting, and documentation can withstand increased scrutiny.
  • Identify issues early, communicate them clearly, and bring forward practical recommendations and paths to resolution.
  • Balance strong controls and financial discipline with the speed and flexibility required in a fast‑growing business.
this role is for you if
  • You have significant progressive accounting experience, ideally including experience as a Controller or Head of Accounting
  • You have led or materially improved an accounting function within a growing, changing, or operationally complex organization.
  • You have experience in consumer products, retail, beauty, apparel, food and beverage, or another inventory‑based business.
  • You have supported a financing, investment, acquisition, sale process, or other major transaction, and understand the level of rigor, responsiveness, and documentation required.
  • You have strong knowledge of inventory accounting, revenue recognition, accruals, financial reporting, internal controls, and U.S. GAAP.
  • You have meaningful experience with NetSuite and understand how accounting systems, operational systems, and business processes intersect.
  • You have successfully led external audits and can communicate with auditors and advisors confidently and constructively.
  • You have experience working through accounting backlogs and inherited challenges that come along with a high growth, fast paced business.
  • You know how to distinguish between controls that are essential and processes that can remain appropriately lightweight.
  • You can operate strategically while staying close enough to the work to identify issues, support your team, and move priorities forward.
  • You are comfortable taking ownership quickly, making informed decisions with incomplete information, and improving existing systems rather than waiting for ideal conditions.
  • You are a strong people leader who can assess talent, develop team members, and thoughtfully build an accounting organization for the future.
  • You communicate proactively and know how to keep senior leadership informed of progress, risks, tradeoffs, and recommended next steps.
  • You are collaborative, low‑ego, and able to build trust across Finance, Operations, Systems, and the broader organization.
  • You are located in the Eastern or Central time zone, or can maintain substantial working‑hour overlap with teams and partners across the U.S. and U.K.
  • A CPA and private equity backed company experience are strongly preferred
salary & benefits
  • The compensation range for this role is a $190,000‑$230,000 base depending on level of experience, as well as bonus eligibility.
  • Additional benefits include:
  • Access to high-quality health care options
  • Access to a 401k with 5% employer match eligibility
  • 4 weeks of vacation plus up to 20 paid holidays
  • 12 weeks fully paid parental leave
  • 5 days of pet‑ernity leave for pet adoption
  • Home office & internet supplement stipend
  • Annual learning & development stipend
  • Flexible Fridays, and Summer Fridays
  • Fully remote work environment
  • ...and much, much more!
