Job summary

Spyglass Talent Solutions is assisting a privately held industrial services company in Eastern North Carolina to appoint a Controller. The role owns the accounting cycle end-to-end, oversees payroll, AP/AR, invoicing, and financial reporting, and partners with leadership and the outside accountant.

You will lead budgeting, forecasting, and cost control, build robust job costing, and improve internal controls and GAAP compliance while driving process improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA a plus.
• 4+ years of progressive accounting experience; a mid-career professional ready for the next step.
• Construction or service industry accounting experience preferred but not required.
• Experience with QuickBooks is a plus.
• Strong background in financial reporting, job costing/cost accounting, cash flow management, and budgeting.
• Highly motivated, self-directed individual with strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the confidence to drive process improvements.
• Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize, maintain attention to detail and recognize time constraints.
• Willing to work in-office in Eastern North Carolina.

Responsibilities

• Own the full accounting cycle, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, payroll oversight, and financial reporting
• Manage cash flow and working capital, with a focus on improving collections and tightening AR/AP processes
• Build and maintain job costing, providing timely cost sheets and profitability data by job
• Oversee high-volume recurring invoicing, including allocating and splitting costs across jobs
• Lead the budgeting and forecasting process; monitor performance against budget throughout the year
• Deliver accurate, up-to-date monthly financial reports and analysis to support leadership’s decision-making
• Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls in accordance with GAAP, and recommend and implement process improvements
• Identify and lead cost-saving initiatives and profit optimization strategies
• Provide dotted-line oversight and guidance to administrative staff handling data entry, invoicing, and payroll; the company may elect to move some of these positions under the Controller’s direct management
• Coordinate with the company’s outside accountant on tax filings, year-end close, and compliance

Spyglass Talent Solutions, a retained recruitment firm based in Raleigh, NC, has been engaged by a well-established, privately held industrial services company to conduct a confidential search for a Controller.

Our client provides a range of specialized industrial services to manufacturing and industrial customers across the Carolinas and Virginia, with field crews available around the clock to respond to client needs.

The company is adding a Controller to take its accounting function to the next level. Based in Eastern North Carolina and reporting to company leadership, the Controller will own the accounting cycle from beginning to end and deliver timely, accurate data on cash flow, job costs, and budgets. This is an in-office role working closely with leadership and the company’s outside accountant, with oversight of the accounting and administrative functions of the company.
