Job description

A $10Bn AUM hedge fund running several strategies across equities, credit, and macro. The finance function is lean and senior. The team works directly with the investment side rather than through layers.

The Role

Controller for the fund complex, reporting to the CFO. This is the senior fund accounting seat. You own the NAV, you own the numbers that go to investors, and you are the person the CFO and the investment team call when something in the P&L does not look right.

The administrator does the production work. Your job is to oversee, challenge, and sign off, not to repeat their work in a spreadsheet.

Responsibilities
  • Own the monthly NAV process across all funds and share classes. Review the administrator's work, resolve breaks, and approve the final NAV.
  • Daily and monthly P&L reporting to the investment team and the CFO. Explain the drivers behind the number, by strategy and by book.
  • Valuation oversight, including level 2 and level 3 positions and the quarterly valuation committee package.
  • Investor level accounting. Allocations, management and incentive fee calculations, equalization, series accounting, and crystallization.
  • Expense allocation between the funds and the management company.
  • Annual financial statements under US GAAP and management of the audit.
  • Cash, margin, and financing oversight across prime brokers and counterparties.
  • Reconciliation of the administrator, prime broker, and internal books across equities, credit, derivatives, and FX.
  • Support regulatory and investor reporting. Form PF, CPO PQR, investor DDQs, and ad hoc allocator requests.
  • Build process and controls as AUM and strategy count grow.
  • Manage and develop a small team.
Requirements
  • Eight to fifteen years in fund accounting, with meaningful time inside a hedge fund. Administrator or Big 4 alternative asset audit background is a strong start, but you need buy side experience in the seat.
  • Exposure to multiple strategies and instrument types. Someone who has only seen long only equity will not be effective here.
  • CPA is a plus and not a requirement. We care more about whether you can defend a NAV than what is on your business card.
  • Comfort operating in an administrator model, and the judgment to know when to push back on them.
  • Advent Geneva, Enfusion, or comparable. Strong Excel.
  • Direct, low ego, and comfortable talking to portfolio managers. This is a visible seat.
