Job summary

Suron, a leading alternative investment firm, seeks a Fund Controller to lead fund accounting and financial reporting, and to build an internal fund administration team.

You will own the end-to-end accounting for investment funds, manage NAV calculations and valuations, and drive scalable controls while collaborating with executives.

The role requires 8+ years in fund accounting with a CPA, advanced Excel, and experience with US GAAP, ASC 946, and regulatory filings; hybrid schedule.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required.
  • 8+ years of fund accounting and fund administration experience, including registered investment companies (interval and/or closed-end / tender offer funds) and private funds.
  • Working knowledge of the Investment Company Act of 1940, U.S. GAAP, ASC 946, SEC reporting requirements, and RIC / Subchapter M taxation.
  • Experience overseeing third-party fund administrators and third-party valuation specialists.
  • Familiarity with daily NAV calculation/mechanics strongly preferred.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel; experience with fund accounting and financial reporting systems (e.g., )

Responsibilities

  • Oversee NAV calculations, reconciliations, and pricing across all Funds.
  • Manage fair value and Level 3 valuation processes, including third-party valuation specialist engagements, review of inputs and models, and support of the Funds’ valuation designee and
  • Implement and maintain shadow accounting proceures and records and daily/monthly NAV tie-outs against the fund administrator’s books.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, annual financial statements under U.S. GAAP and ASC 946.
  • Coordinate regulatory filings (N-PORT, N-CEN, and N-CSR) and support disclosures.
  • Review fee calculations and expense allocations; manage budget and accruals.
  • Coordinate with tax providers on Subchapter M and tax reporting; oversee audits.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Fund Controller to lead our fund accounting and financial reporting functions while building and managing our internal fund administration team. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who thrives in a hands-on environment and is excited to help scale a growing investment platform.

In this role, you will own the end-to-end accounting process for our investment funds while leading the transition of fund administration responsibilities from third-party providers to an internal team. You will recruit, develop, and mentor accounting professionals, establish scalable processes and controls, and partner closely with executive leadership to strengthen the firm\'s financial operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and review daily and periodic NAV calculations, portfolio and cash reconciliations, investment transaction booking, expense accruals, and pricing exceptions across all Funds.
  • Manage fair value and Level 3 valuation processes, including third-party valuation specialist engagements, review of inputs and models, and support of the Funds’ valuation designee and
  • Implement and maintain shadow accounting proceures and records and daily/monthly NAV tie-outs against the fund administrator’s books.
Financial & Regulatory Reporting
  • Review and coordinate the preparation of monthly, quarterly, annual, and shareholder financial statements under U.S. GAAP and ASC 946.
  • Manage registered-fund regulatory filings, including Forms N-PORT, N-CEN, and N-CSR, and support financial content in N-2 registration statements, prospectuses, and SAIs.
  • Review SEC filings and support offer documentation for repurchase and tender activity, coordinating with legal on disclosure and timing.
Fees, Expenses & Tax
  • Review management and incentive fee calculations, expense allocations, expense-cap and waiver/recoupment mechanics, and distribution calculations for accuracy and consistency with advisory agreements and governing documents.
  • Manage budget and periodic expense accrual adjustments and approvals.
  • Coordinate with tax providers on RIC qualification testing under Subchapter M, excise tax, distribution requirements, and annual returns, K-1s, and 1099 reporting.
  • Manage relationships and service levels with fund administrators, custodians, pricing vendors, tax firms, and external auditors; coordinate annual audits and regulatory examinations.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and operating procedures, and identify opportunities to automate and streamline processes.
  • Prepare financial and operational reporting for executive leadership and Board meetings, including fund performance, expense, and compliance analyses.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop fund accounting staff, and manage the production calendar against firm, SEC, and investor deadlines.
  • Prepare DDQ responses and support investor reporting, correspondence, and ad hoc analyses.
