We are seeking an experienced Accounting Controller to join an award-winning design firm in Manhattan. In this role, you will be responsible for day-to-day accounting operations, payroll processes, and providing financial updates to leadership.
Responsibilities include:
- Manage accounts payable and receivable functions, including monthly project billing and daily collections.
- Manage payroll on a semi-monthly and bi-weekly basis
- Prepare financial statements and manage the monthly/annual close process
- Perform accurate and timely reconciliations of bank and general ledger accounts
- Ensure adherence to all financial and tax reporting/payment requirements, including state and federal tax filings
- Complete annual 1099 process, ensuring accurate and timely reporting for independent contractors.
- Collaborate with project leadership to review contract terms, payment schedules, and client billing
- Maintain safeguards for revenue, costs, and project and organizational budgets, ensuring alignment with actual expenditures
- Work with leadership to establish financial benchmarks, budgets, project monitoring, and reporting standards
- Develop and enforce internal controls to protect company assets and streamline policies, procedures, and workflows
- Support short- and long-term operational strategies
- Partner with leadership on budget projections, maintaining budget goals through proper scheduling, analysis, and corrective actions
- Provide financial updates to leadership by evaluating and reporting key data points
- Prepare reports and supporting documentation for external accountants
- Guide financial decisions by applying company policies to current economic conditions
- Develop, implement, and maintain financial controls and guidelines
Person Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or similar – preferred, but not essential
- 5+ years’ demonstrable experience in a financial control, accounting
- Experience with accounting software – QuickBooks, Deltek and Microsoft Excel.
- Skilled in payroll, bank reconciliations, invoicing, AP/AR, etc.
