Descrição da oferta de emprego

VP of Finance / Controller – Multi-Unit Restaurant Operations

Employment Type: Full-Time

Industry: Quick-Service Restaurant (QSR) / Franchise Operations

Travel: Regular travel across seven operating markets

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a hands‑on VP of Finance / Controller to oversee the financial operations of a growing multi-unit quick-service restaurant franchise organization.

Reporting directly to the President of Operations, this individual will play a key role in strengthening financial controls, overseeing accounting and reporting, managing cash flow, and improving restaurant-level profitability across multiple locations and legal entities.

This is a hands‑on financial leadership role that combines strategic financial oversight with direct involvement in vendor payment approvals, financial reporting, operational analysis, and process improvement.

The organization utilizes an outsourced accounting firm for bookkeeping and accounting functions. The VP of Finance / Controller will oversee the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of that work. This position does not have internal accounting staff or direct reports.

The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, proactive, responsive, and comfortable working closely with executive and operational leadership in a fast‑paced, multi‑location business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Personally review and approve vendor payments before disbursement, generally twice weekly or as needed.
  • Verify invoices, vendor details, payment amounts, and supporting documentation.
  • Establish and maintain strong internal controls, including dual authorization for new vendors, banking changes, and payments above designated thresholds.
  • Monitor accounts payable, vendor terms, cash balances, and banking activity.
  • Identify discrepancies, duplicate payments, unnecessary expenses, and potential financial risks.
  • Oversee the outsourced accounting firm to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Review monthly financial statements, general ledger activity, reconciliations, and multi‑entity reporting.
  • Ensure timely month‑end and year‑end close processes.
  • Analyze restaurant‑level and consolidated profit and loss statements.
  • Coordinate with external accountants and tax advisors on tax filings and financial compliance.
  • Deliver clear, actionable financial reports and recommendations to executive leadership.
Restaurant Financial Performance
  • Monitor food and paper costs, labor percentages, occupancy expenses, operating margins, and restaurant‑level EBITDA.
  • Evaluate financial performance across multiple restaurant locations and legal entities.
  • Analyze budget variances, expense trends, and operating results.
  • Identify opportunities to control costs, improve margins, and increase profitability.
  • Partner with restaurant and regional operations leaders to strengthen financial accountability.
  • Oversee franchise royalty reporting, advertising charges, and required franchisor reporting.
Cash Flow, Banking & Business Growth
  • Develop and maintain rolling cash flow forecasts and annual operating budgets.
  • Manage banking relationships, lender reporting, loan schedules, and covenant compliance.
  • Monitor debt obligations, working capital, and capital expenditures.
  • Support financial analysis for acquisitions, new restaurant development, renovations, and expansion initiatives.
  • Identify financial risks and recommend corrective actions to support business objectives.
Executive Partnership & Operational Support
  • Report directly to the President of Operations and maintain consistent communication regarding financial performance, cash flow, vendor payments, and business priorities.
  • Partner with executive and operational leadership to implement financial and operational improvements.
  • Respond promptly to requests and changing business needs while maintaining sound accounting practices and financial controls.
  • Take ownership of responsibilities, follow through on commitments, and proactively communicate concerns and recommendations.
  • Adapt financial procedures, reporting requirements, and priorities as the organization evolves.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • Significant experience in accounting, financial management, controllership, or a similar senior finance role.
  • Experience overseeing financial operations for a multi‑unit restaurant, QSR, franchise, or other multi‑location business.
  • Strong knowledge of financial statements, general ledger activity, account reconciliations, and month‑end close processes.
  • Experience with accounts payable controls, vendor payment approvals, cash management, and banking operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze restaurant‑level financial performance, operating expenses, margins, and EBITDA.
  • Experience overseeing outsourced accounting providers or third‑party accounting services.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, working capital management, and financial controls.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining accuracy, accountability, and responsiveness.
  • Willingness to travel regularly across seven operating markets.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a QSR franchise environment.
  • Experience overseeing multiple legal entities and restaurant locations.
  • Familiarity with franchise royalties, advertising assessments, franchisor reporting, and restaurant‑level financial metrics.
  • Experience supporting acquisitions, new restaurant openings, renovations, and business expansion.
  • Experience working with lenders, external accountants, tax advisors, and outsourced accounting firms.
  • Strong understanding of internal controls, fraud prevention, and financial risk management.

What Makes This Opportunity Unique?

This position offers the opportunity to work directly with executive leadership and have a meaningful impact on financial accountability and profitability across a multi‑unit restaurant portfolio.

The successful candidate will bring a combination of financial expertise, operational awareness, attention to detail, and a hands‑on approach to ensuring the business has accurate reporting, strong controls, and the financial insight needed to support continued growth.
