Job summary

Tatsu-Ya Restaurants seeks a strategic VP of Finance to lead all accounting and finance functions across multiple restaurant concepts. You will partner with the CEO on long-term financial strategy, oversee forecasting, and drive internal controls, budgeting, and cash optimization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • CPA or MBA preferred.
  • 10-15+ years of progressive finance/accounting experience.
  • 5-8+ years leading finance teams.
  • Multi-unit restaurant experience preferred.
  • Experience presenting to Boards and executive leadership.
  • Experience with budgeting, FP&A, treasury, and financial strategy.
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills.
  • Experience with restaurant ERP/POS systems (Restaurant365, Compeat, NetSuite, Sage, etc.).
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with vendors and internal/external stakeholders.

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Statement of Purpose:

The VP of Finance is the key financial leader responsible for managing and overseeing all accounting and finance functions within the organization. This includes ensuring the accurate preparation and timely delivery of financial statements, such as balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, for internal and external stakeholders. The VP of Finance works closely with the CEO to develop the long-term financial strategy. They also oversee the financial forecasting and reporting for multiple restaurant entities, ensuring consistency and accuracy across all operations. In addition, the VP of Finance is responsible for maintaining internal controls, ensuring compliance with tax regulations, overseeing lease management, budgeting and forecasting, cash flow optimization, and implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs. Their role is vital in driving the financial health of the company, providing strategic financial guidance to leadership, and leading the accounting team to ensure smooth, efficient operations.

Key Measurement Criteria:CEO Partnership:
  • Serve as the financial thought partner to the CEO and broader executive team.

  • Build and maintain ROI frameworks for evaluating investments across the business so that decisions are grounded in analysis, not intuition.
Financial Operations & Oversight:
  • Supervise finance and accounting operations across multiple restaurant concepts and entities, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting and AP controls.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with banking/lending institutions and provide strategic support around capital financing to support company growth needs.
  • Inform and guide department heads regarding spending that could impact cash flow, ensuring adequate funds are consistently available for timely payment processing.
Teamwork:
  • Collaborate with internal departments to support operational, financial and performance goals.
  • Liaise with the external CPA firm for year-end financial statement reviews, facilitating smooth and efficient audits.
  • Collaborate with department heads throughout the annual budgeting and planning process.
Financial Strategy & Planning:
  • Partner with the executive team (CEO, President, & COO) to develop long-term financial strategy and evaluate growth plans, investments and financing opportunities.
  • Lead the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts, analyzing and reporting budget variance to drive decision-making.
  • Develop multi-year financial plans and budgets, cash forecasting, capital expenditure planning, and banking covenant compliance.
  • Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to ensure consistent and accurate financial practices across the organization.
  • Monitor and analyze financial performance, providing recommendations to improve profitability, reduce costs, and optimize operational efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including tax filings and financial reporting standards, across multiple entities.
  • Board relations- prepare board packages including financial statements, KPI dashboards, strategic analysis, forecasts, liquidity updates, and recommendations on a monthly and quarterly basis.
Team Leadership & Development:
  • Mentor and develop a high performing financial team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Provide training on accounting systems, processes, and compliance requirements to ensure departmental consistency and accuracy.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and offer constructive feedback to enhance team performance and productivity.
