Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting.
• Minimum 6 years of progressive accounting experience, including controller duties over the full scope of accounting functions.
• Experience supervising staff, including managing or reviewing accounts receivable and accounts payable functions.
• Strong understanding of US GAAP, monthly close processes, and internal controls.
• Comfortable with hands-on daily financial operations, including cash management and funds verification.
• Proficiency with cloud based accounting software and ERP systems.
• Able to work onsite at the Company's Montgomery, Alabama headquarters, Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily direction, supervision, and review of the work of the Accounts Receivable Specialist and Accounts Payable Specialist.
• Ensure accounting processes, procedures, and internal controls are well documented, and designed and operating effectively and efficiently.
• Own the monthly close process and deliver timely, accurate financial statements to the Fractional CFO and Owner.
• Review and approve account reconciliations, journal entries, and the general ledger.
• Perform daily cash management, including verification of funds and monitor bank activity.
• Monitor accounts receivable and accounts payable aging and escalate issues as needed.
• Maintain compliance with applicable accounting standards and Company policy.
• Serve as the onsite point of contact for accounting matters at headquarters.
• Identify and implement process improvements to strengthen efficiency and controls.
• Support the Fractional CFO and Owner with ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as needed.

Job description

The Company is a well-established industrial fabricator based in Montgomery, Alabama, with decades of operating history serving customers across the region. The Company is seeking an experienced, hands-on Controller to lead the daily accounting function at its corporate headquarters.

Position Overview

We are seeking a part-time, onsite Controller to oversee the accounting operations of the Company, Monday through Friday, from the Company's headquarters in Montgomery, Alabama. This is the only accounting role located onsite, so a physical presence at headquarters is essential. The Controller will provide daily direction to two staff, an Accounts Receivable Specialist and an Accounts Payable Specialist, and will be responsible for ensuring accounting and finance processes and internal controls are operating effectively and efficiently. The Controller will close the monthly books and deliver accurate, useful financial statements to the Fractional CFO and Owner, and will handle select daily financial operations.

Key Responsibilities

Key Performance Objectives

• First 30 Days: Gain a working knowledge of the Company's accounting systems, processes, and internal controls; establish a productive working rhythm with the A/R and A/P Specialists; support the month-end close; evaluate the accounting process documentation to ensure adherence to best practices both in terms of efficiency and internal controls; demonstrate the ability to consistently produce high quality outputs.
• First 90 Days: Independently manage the monthly close and deliver financial statements to the Fractional CFO and Owner on a consistent, predictable schedule; identify and begin addressing any control gaps; operate the accounting function with minimal oversight; demonstrate reliable cash management and financial operations practices; serve as a trusted and reliable resource to upper management.

Qualifications and Attributes

Required

• Bachelor's degree in accounting
• Minimum 6 years of progressive accounting experience, including controller level duties over the full scope of accounting functions
• Experience supervising staff, including managing or reviewing accounts receivable and accounts payable functions
• Strong understanding of US GAAP, monthly close processes, and internal controls
• Comfortable with hands-on daily financial operations, including cash management and funds verification
• Proficiency with cloud based accounting software, ERP systems, Microsoft Excel
• Ability to quickly learn new accounting software and other software/systems
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Demonstrates strong professional ethics, discretion, and a positive attitude in all workplace situations
• Able to work onsite at the Company's Montgomery, Alabama headquarters, Monday through Friday

Preferred

• CPA preferred, but not required
• Experience in manufacturing, fabrication, or a related industrial environment
• Experience working alongside a fractional or outsourced CFO
• Part-time, onsite, Monday through Friday, approximately 20-25 hours per week.
• Located at the Company's corporate headquarters in Montgomery, Alabama
• Onsite presence is required, as this is the only accounting role based at headquarters
