Qualifications

• Bachelor in accounting, finance, or related field.
• CPA certification is required.
• Minimum of 10 years of full-cycle accounting in commercial real estate or financial services.
• Proven leadership track record.
• Ability to work cross-functionally.
• Strong verbal and written communication with lenders, investors, and service providers.
• Yardi experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the accounting organization including treasury, tax, corporate, property, and investment accounting.
• Provide direction to functional managers for timely, accurate reporting.

• Oversee financial reporting, close processes, controls, and compliance across entities.
• Establish and maintain accounting policies, procedures and controls.

Reports To: Executive Vice President of Finance

Overview

The Controller is responsible for leading and overseeing the company’s accounting, reporting, treasury, tax coordination, property accounting, corporate accounting, and investment accounting functions. This role provides direction for functional managers, ensures strong processes and internal controls are in place, and promotes timely, accurate, and decision-ready reporting.

The Controller is expected to be a strategic, process-oriented leader who can guide the team, improve workflows, support ownership and executive leadership, and ensure accounting practices are scalable, efficient, and compliant with applicable standards.

Key Responsibilities

Specific functional responsibilities shall include (not limited to):

• Lead and oversee the accounting organization, including treasury, tax, corporate accounting, property accounting, and investment accounting
• Provide direction, priorities, and accountability to functional managers to ensure timely, accurate, and consistent reporting
• Mentor and develop the accounting team while promoting collaboration, cross-training, accountability, and professional growth
• Oversee financial reporting, close processes, internal controls, and compliance across property, corporate, holding company, and joint venture entities
• Establish, enforce, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and controls that protect company assets, support compliance, and promote consistent practices across the organization
• Provide guidance on complex accounting matters and ensure appropriate review, documentation, and resolution of technical or judgment-based accounting issues

Treasury, Cash Flow & Strategic Finance

• Support ownership and executive leadership with cash flow visibility, forecasting, scenario modeling, deal analysis, and other strategic financial support
• Support escalation and resolution of concerns that impact accounting processes, deliverables, cash management, controls, or cross-department compliance

Process Improvement & Systems

Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, reduce manual work, strengthen controls, and improve use of accounting and reporting systems

Internal & External Stakeholder Management

Serve as a key accounting resource for internal departments, ownership, lenders, investors, outside accountants, attorneys, and other external partners

Qualifications

• Bachelor in accounting, finance, or a related field
• CPA certification is required
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in full cycle accounting for a commercial real estate or financial services firm
• Proven track record of effective leadership
• Skillset to work collaboratively across departmental lines
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate internally as well as externally with lenders, investors, and service providers
• Ability to set clear goals, obtain executive buy-in, and independently execute action items
• Proven ability to manage a cross-functional team
• Yardi experience is preferred
• Excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
