Job summary

Hawkeye Electric is seeking an experienced Controller to lead full‑cycle accounting for construction and real estate clients. You will work directly with business owners, guide the finance team, and provide strategic guidance to improve financial clarity and operations.

The role emphasizes attention to detail, deadline management, and collaboration within a fast‑paced, growth‑oriented practice. Expect cross‑client exposure and high‑trust teamwork.

Qualifications

  • Experience in real estate and/or construction accounting.
  • Familiarity with job costing, purchasing, construction financing and vendor billing.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and guide full-cycle accounting processes.
  • Perform AIA billing, accruals, depreciation, and prepaid calculations.
  • Oversee cash flow management, forecasting, and budgeting.
  • Handle sales tax filings and multi-jurisdictional research.
  • Track intercompany activity and ensure compliance.
  • Prepare 1099 and W-2 filings.
  • Process payroll for clients across industries.
  • Collaborate with clients and team members to improve financial clarity and operations.
  • Communicate with business owners, clients, and vendors clearly and professionally.
  • Work independently with strong organization and deadline focus.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, high-trust team and meaningful impact.
  • Adapt to fast-paced environment and multiple projects.

We are growing — and we're excited to add a Controllerto our team! We’re not your typical accounting team. We go beyond bookkeeping to provide hands‑on accounting leadership, operational support, and strategic guidance, especially in the construction and real estate industries.

This is a high‑impact role for someone who enjoys getting into the details while also thinking big‑picture. You'll work directly with business owners, collaborate with our internal team, and help shape the financial success of the companies we support.

What You’ll Be Doing

In this role, you’ll manage and guide full‑cycle accounting processes including:

  • Preparing accurate and timely monthly financials, reconciliations, and trial balances
  • AIA billing, accruals, depreciation, and prepaid calculations
  • Cash flow management, forecasting, and budgeting
  • Sales tax filings and multi‑jurisdictional research
  • Intercompany activity tracking and compliance
  • 1099 and W‑2 preparation and filings
  • Payroll processing for clients across industries
  • Partnering with clients and team members to improve financial clarity and operations
  • Have direct experience in real estate and/or construction accounting
  • Understand job costing, purchasing, construction financing, and vendor billing
  • Are confident using QuickBooks, Foundation, and other accounting software
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with business owners, clients, and vendors
  • Work independently with strong attention to detail and deadline management
