Job summary

Health E Staffing is seeking a seasoned Controller to oversee day-to-day accounting for a complex nonprofit in Kauai. You will report to the CFO, lead the finance team, ensure GAAP-compliant reporting and strong internal controls, and provide strategic financial insights aligned with the mission.

The role covers budgeting, audits, grant management, and Form 990 preparation, with opportunities to drive efficiency through AI and modern finance tech.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 7–10 years of accounting experience with expertise in financial reporting, audits, and investment accounting.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and Google Workspace skills.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to work full-time, on-site at Kauai headquarters.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all accounting operations and financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.
  • Oversee accounts, general ledger, balance sheet reconciliations, and fixed assets.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and analyze budget-to-actual performance.
  • Partner with the CFO on annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
  • Manage grant and project accounting while ensuring compliance with government and foundation funding requirements.
  • Lead the annual financial statement audit and assist with Form 990 preparation.
  • Develop, maintain, and strengthen internal accounting policies and controls.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop the Finance team while promoting operational excellence.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency by leveraging AI and modern financial technology.

Our client is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee the day-to‑day accounting operations of our complex nonprofit organization. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, you'll lead the finance team, ensure financial accuracy and compliance, strengthen internal controls, and provide strategic financial insights that support our mission.

What You'll Do
