Job summary

HealthFirst Family Care Center, Inc. in Fall River, MA is seeking a Controller to ensure accurate financial reporting and strong internal controls.

You will lead daily accounting activities, oversee the general ledger, payroll, and accounts payable, and coordinate audits and regulatory compliance. The role reports to the CFO and requires seven years of accounting experience, a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, and experience in healthcare/nonprofit settings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • Seven years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including financial reporting, GL management, month-end & year-end close, audit support, and internal controls.
  • Three years of supervisory or accounting leadership experience preferred.
  • Healthcare, FQHC, nonprofit healthcare, or other highly regulated accounting experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP and applying accounting principles to complex transactions.
  • Grant accounting and federal grant compliance (Uniform Guidance) preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and ERP/GL/payroll/reporting systems; NetSuite preferred.
  • Must submit a CORI release form and demonstrate clearance.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Must be able to work onsite and remote environments.

Description

Exciting opportunity to join a fast-paced medical team within a growing federally qualified community health center. HealthFirst Family Care Center, Inc. “The Heart of Our Community” provides comprehensive services including adult/pediatric medical care, health education, health assessment and screenings, gynecology, cardiology, behavioral health, substance use treatment, and adult/pediatric dental care.

Controller Summary

The Controller is responsible for the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of the organization's accounting and financial reporting functions. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller leads day-to-day accounting operations, general ledger management, month-end and year-end close, financial reporting, internal controls, payroll oversight, accounts payable, grant accounting, audit coordination, and regulatory compliance. The Controller provides financial analysis and operational insight to support management decision-making and ensures accounting practices comply with GAAP, Uniform Guidance, HRSA requirements, and organizational policies.

Mon – Fri: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm

Pay Range

$88,115.68 – $105,706.90 annually*

*The pay range represents HealthFirst’s good faith estimate for this role at the time of posting, in compliance with applicable laws. Final compensation will be determined based on several factors such as relevant experience, education, skills, internal equity, market conditions, and budget considerations. Candidates with less direct experience may be placed at the lower end of the range, while those with more significant or specialized experience may be considered at the higher end.

Required Qualifications
  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  2. Minimum seven years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including demonstrated responsibility for financial reporting, general ledger management, month-end/year-end close, audit support, and internal controls.
  3. Minimum three years of supervisory or accounting leadership experience preferred.
  4. Healthcare, FQHC, nonprofit healthcare, or other highly regulated accounting experience strongly preferred.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP and experience applying accounting principles to complex transactions and financial reporting.
  6. Experience with grant accounting and federal grant compliance, including Uniform Guidance, strongly preferred.
  7. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and demonstrated experience with ERP/general ledger, payroll, accounts payable, and financial reporting systems; NetSuite or comparable ERP experience preferred.
  8. Must submit a CORI releases form and demonstrate proof of being free from disqualifying information.
  9. Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, communication, and leadership skills, with demonstrated ability to investigate and resolve financial discrepancies.
  10. Must be able to work independently and collaboratively in both onsite and remote work environments.
