Controller Key Responsibilities
- Lead all accounting operations, including general ledger, close, financial reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and cash accounting.
- Deliver timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Establish a disciplined close calendar, clear ownership, and effective review procedures.
- Develop, maintain, and strengthen accounting policies, internal controls, and financial documentation.
- Lead annual audits, tax coordination, banking requests, insurance reporting, and other compliance activities.
- Partner with FP&A and business leaders on budgets, forecasts, cash flow planning, and performance analysis.
- Provide meaningful financial insights, explain results, and help leadership make informed decisions.
- Recruit, develop, coach, and retain a high-performing accounting team.
- Evaluate systems and workflows and lead automation, ERP, and process improvement initiatives.Oversee accounting for complex transactions, contracts, revenue, leases, debt, equity, or acquisitions as applicable.
- Ensure the accounting organization can scale with growth, new entities, acquisitions, or changing reporting needs.
- Serve as a trusted partner to executive leadership, auditors, lenders, and other external stakeholders.
Controller Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; an Accounting degree is strongly preferred.
- Eight or more years of progressive accounting experience, including at least three years in a leadership role.
- Deep knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, month-end close, and internal controls.
- Demonstrated success leading and developing accounting teams.
- Experience managing audits and partnering effectively with external auditors and tax advisors.
- Strong business judgment with the ability to move between strategic issues and detailed accounting work.
- Experience improving processes, implementing controls, and scaling accounting operations.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong experience with ERP and financial reporting systems.
