Job summary

Denver Public Schools is seeking a Senior Administrator in Accounting to manage the daily operations of the General Accounting department and oversee internal controls in a GAAP-compliant manner. You will report to the Chief Financial Officer and contribute to a values-driven culture focused on Students First, Integrity, Equity, Collaboration, Accountability and Fun.

The role requires 5+ years of senior accounting experience, a strong leadership track record, and the ability to translate data

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance or related field.
• 5+ years as Senior Administrator in accounting, auditing, budgeting, or financial planning.
• Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.
• Experience analyzing data to improve processes and inform strategy.

• Monitor expenditures and revenues to align with budgets.
• Foster collaborative and ethical work environment.
• Ensure staff compensation, vendor payments, revenue collection comply with policies.
• Coordinate external and internal audits and address findings.
• Establish and enforce internal control policies to safeguard assets.

Serves as a key member of the Financial Services Leadership team responsible for managing the daily operations of the General Accounting department; overseeing the district’s internal control structure and environment; and ensuring that general accounting activities and reporting are conducted in a timely manner in compliance with local, state and federal regulations and in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). What You\'ll Do

• Plans, assigns and supervises the work performed in the areas of responsibility and ensures compliance with District policy and practices and appropriate federal, state and local rules and regulations
• Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to the school board, superintendent, and district leadership
• Provide financial analysis to guide decision-making and ensure alignment with the district’s strategic goals
• Collaborate with school administrators, department heads, and district leaders to prepare and manage the district’s annual budget
• Monitor expenditures and revenues throughout the fiscal year, ensuring alignment with approved budgets
• Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment, promoting professional development and adherence to high ethical standards
• Ensure that staff compensation, vendor payments, and revenue collection are managed in compliance with district policies and regulations
• Coordinate external and internal audits, addressing audit findings and ensuring the implementation of corrective actions
• Establish and enforce internal control policies and procedures to safeguard district assets and ensure fiscal accountability

What You\'ll Need

• Minimum Bachelor's Degree - Business, Finance or other related field
• 5+ years Senior Administrator in accounting, auditing, budgeting, financial planning or related financial field
• Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations
• Experience in analyzing data, and using this data to for process and program improvements and to inform strategy
• Outstanding facilitation and communication skills, including ability to inspire others
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to lead a high-performing team
• Superior leadership, coaching and mentoring skills
• Strong inter-personal skills and ability to work with individuals at all different levels in the organization
• Self-starter/leader who can anticipate department needs in a proactive (versus, reactive) manner
• Strategic planning and organizational development knowledge and skills
