Job summary

Hirewell is seeking a Controller for an early-stage mineral processing technology company in Westminster, CO, to own accounting and financial reporting as it scales.

You will design the close process, policies, controls, and NetSuite configuration, owning GAAP reporting, audits, and equity accounting with a hands-on, lean-team mindset.

This role offers a base salary range of 130k-170k plus annual bonus and equity, with a hybrid schedule and close exposure to leadership and the board.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience at Controller/Assistant Controller level.
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP and ability to write accounting memos.
• Hands-on in a lean, small team environment.
• Public accounting experience and CPA preferred.
• Experience building/ scaling accounting function in a growth company.
• Exposure to mining/industrial equipment/ cleantech a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own monthly, quarterly, and annual close and GAAP financial statements.
• Prepare leadership and board financial packages with variance analysis.
• Set up COA, close calendar, and core accounting processes.
• Manage intercompany activity, billing, cost allocations, and settlements.
• Write/maintain policies for revenue, fixed assets, leases, and equity.
• Apply ASC 606, 718, and 842 to arrangements and equity awards.
• Lead annual audit and coordinate with outside tax advisors.
• Support 409A valuations and maintain cap table equity records.
• Own NetSuite and oversee AP, AR, payroll, and expenses.
• Hire and develop accounting staff; partner on budgeting and cash forecasting.

An early-stage mineral processing technology company is looking for a Controller to own accounting and financial reporting as the business moves into commercial growth. Much of the finance function is still being built, so this person will set up the close process, policies, controls, and systems the company will run on as it scales. A strong fit for a hands‑on accounting leader who wants to build from the ground up in a lean team rather than inherit an established process.

Responsibilities

• Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close and produce GAAP financial statements
• Prepare the monthly financial package for leadership and the board, including variance analysis and commentary
• Set up and refine the chart of accounts, close calendar, and core accounting processes
• Manage related-party and intercompany activity, including billing, cost allocations, and settlements
• Write and maintain accounting policies for revenue, fixed assets, leases, and equity
• Apply ASC 606, 718, and 842 to customer arrangements, equity awards, and leases, and account for processing units and field equipment
• Lead the annual audit and coordinate with outside tax advisors across all operating locations
• Support 409A valuations and keep equity records reconciled to the cap table
• Own NetSuite and oversee AP, AR, payroll, and expense processes
• Hire and develop accounting staff as the company grows
• Partner on budgeting, cash forecasting, and project-level cost tracking

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting required
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including time at the Controller or Assistant Controller level
• Strong working knowledge of US GAAP and comfort writing technical accounting memos
• Willingness to be hands‑on in a small team
• Public accounting experience (Big 4, national, or regional firm) strongly preferred
• CPA preferred
• Experience at a venture‑backed or high‑growth company building out its accounting function a plus
• Exposure to mining, industrial equipment, energy, hardware, or cleantech a plus
