Job summary

Meals on Wheels of Southwest Ohio & Northern Kentucky is seeking a qualified Controller for its Cincinnati metropolitan area. This full-time, on-site role oversees day-to-day accounting, general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll review, and month-end close while ensuring accuracy and compliance.

You will generate financial statements, support budgeting and forecasts, manage audits, and strengthen internal controls to support the organization's mission of delivering essential services

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• CPA or similar credential preferred.
• Experience with nonprofit or grant-funded accounting.
• Knowledge of GAAP and regulatory requirements.

• Oversee daily accounting operations: general ledger, AP/AR, payroll review.
• Manage month-end and year-end close processes.

Role Description

The Controller is a full-time, on-site role based in the Cincinnati Metropolitan Area. This position oversees day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable and receivable, payroll review, and month-end and year-end closing processes. The Controller prepares and analyzes financial statements, supports budgeting and forecasting, and ensures compliance with relevant regulations, grant requirements, and internal policies. The role includes monitoring cash flow, managing audits, and improving financial systems and internal controls to support organizational efficiency and transparency. The Controller collaborates with leadership and program teams to provide timely financial reporting and guidance that supports strategic decision-making and the organization’s mission.

Qualifications

• Strong financial management and accounting skills, including general ledger, financial reporting, budgeting, and audit preparation.
• Experience with nonprofit or grant-funded accounting, including compliance, fund tracking, and reporting to external stakeholders.
• Proficiency with accounting software and spreadsheets, with the ability to analyze data and produce clear, accurate reports.
• Knowledge of GAAP and relevant federal, state, and local regulations impacting nonprofit financial operations.
• Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with cross-functional teams and leadership.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or similar credential is preferred.
• Prior experience as a Controller, Senior Accountant, or equivalent role, ideally within a nonprofit or human services organization.
