Job summary

Soni is seeking an experienced Controller for a growing transportation organization. This hands-on accounting leader will build and mentor the team, drive financial reporting excellence, and partner with executive leadership to improve performance.

The Controller will oversee the entire accounting function, manage GAAP-compliant reporting, budgeting, cash flow, and internal controls, with strong potential to advance into a CFO‑level role as the company grows.

Qualifications

• 8–10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience with leadership.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Strong GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting background.
• Experience leading AP/AR, payroll, general ledger, and reporting operations.

Soni is seeking an experienced Controller for a growing transportation organization. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands‑on accounting leader who is passionate about building teams, improving processes, and partnering with executive leadership to enhance financial performance. The Controller will oversee the accounting function, drive financial reporting excellence, strengthen operational efficiencies, and play a key role in supporting the company’s continued growth with long‑term potential to advance into a CFO‑level role.

Responsibilities of the Controller:

• Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team while creating a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, payroll, cash flow, and financial reporting.
• Manage the month‑end close process, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, financial statements, and variance analysis.
• Ensure accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and maintain strong internal controls.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and cash flow planning processes.
• Partner with operations and executive leadership to analyze performance, improve profitability, and support strategic initiatives.
• Oversee customer billing, accounts receivable aging, collections, carrier payables, and vendor payments to optimize working capital.
• Monitor key financial metrics, including DSO, payment cycles, and operational performance trends.
• Coordinate audits and ensure financial records are accurate, compliant, and audit‑ready.
• Oversee payroll processing, commissions, bonuses, payroll accruals, and related reporting.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, automate processes, and enhance financial visibility.
• Support ERP/TMS improvements, system integrations, and reporting enhancements.
• Provide financial insights and recommendations to executive leadership to support business growth.

Requirements of the Controller:

• 8–10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including accounting leadership responsibilities.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Strong background in financial reporting, month‑end close, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and internal controls.
• Experience overseeing AP, AR, billing, payroll, general ledger, and financial operations.
• Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop accounting teams.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and experience with reporting tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
• Experience working in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial, or growth‑oriented environment.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to influence cross‑functional stakeholders.
• High emotional intelligence, executive presence, and strong business acumen.
• Ability to balance hands‑on accounting execution with strategic financial leadership.

Preferred Qualifications:

• MBA or Master's degree.
• Experience within transportation, logistics, freight, or other operationally complex industries.
• Experience with McLeod or other ERP/TMS platforms.
• Experience leading accounting system implementations, automation initiatives, and process improvements.

Compensation: $150,000–$180,000 base salary + incentive opportunity

Compensation may vary based on experience, skills, and qualifications.
