Job description

We’re here because the ‘old way’ wasn’t working.

Owners need people who can ask tough questions, make sound decisions, and be willing to fight for their best interests. And that’s what we do best.

At Iskagna, we’re grounded in the belief that building strong relationships is just as important as building strong projects. We’re a Charleston-based construction and development management firm with a passion for leading with heart, honoring our commitments, and serving our clients with clarity and conviction.

Founded in 2021, Iskagna was created to bring a more thoughtful, responsive approach to the built environment—one rooted in trust, transparency, and teamwork. We guide public and private clients through the full project lifecycle, helping them navigate challenges, manage complexity, and achieve outcomes that last.

Our Services

Program and Project Management, Development Management, Construction Management, Cost Management and Estimating, Project Controls, Project Monitoring, and Development Advisory

Sectors

Healthcare, Mixed Use, Education, Multifamily, Municipal, Retail, Hospitality, Industrial, and Sports + Entertainment

The Opportunity

Iskagna is at an inflection point. We've built a strong foundation in Charleston, and we're now expanding across the Southeast, deepening our presence in existing sectors, and entering new ones. That growth demands a financial foundation that can scale with it — which creates real opportunity for the right candidate to build it.

You'll join a firm small enough that your contributions matter, and ambitious enough that those contributions compound. You'll design the financial systems, controls, and reporting that the next wave of hires will inherit. You'll work directly with our Managing Partner on financial strategy and business planning, and have a clear line of sight into how the business is run — and where it's going. For someone who wants to be more than a number on an org chart, this is a rare window.

Job Overview

As Controller, you'll own Iskagna's financial operations — from day-to-day accounting, job costing, and cash management to financial reporting, budgeting, and audit/tax coordination. You'll partner closely with the Managing Partner on financial strategy and business planning, and build the systems and controls that support the firm's continued growth across the Southeast. The Controller reports directly to the Managing Partner.

Objectives & Responsibilities
  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring accurate and timely financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) in accordance with GAAP.
  • Maintain the general ledger, chart of accounts, and accounting policies across all entities and project-related SPEs.
  • Prepare financial reporting packages and dashboards for the Managing Partner and leadership team.
Job Costing & Project Accounting
  • Manage job costing and work-in-progress (WIP) reporting across active capital projects, coordinating with Project Managers on budget-to-actual tracking.
  • Review and reconcile project-level revenue recognition, billings, and cost accruals.
  • Support fee proposals and project budgets with historical cost data and margin analysis.
Cash & Treasury Management
  • Manage cash flow forecasting, banking relationships, and treasury functions across the firm.
  • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including subcontractor/vendor payments and client invoicing.
  • Monitor covenant compliance and manage relationships with lenders as needed.
Budgeting, Planning & Compliance
  • Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process in partnership with the Managing Partner.
  • Coordinate year-end audit, tax preparation, and filings with outside CPA firm(s) and tax advisors.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local tax and regulatory requirements, and maintain internal controls.
  • Manage payroll processing, benefits administration coordination, and insurance/bonding requirements.
  • Build and refine the financial systems, processes, and controls that will scale with the firm's growth.
  • Manage and mentor accounting/finance support staff as the team grows.
  • Evaluate and implement accounting and project management software/systems (e.g., Sage 300 CRE, Vista, Procore, QuickBooks) to support the firm's needs.
Skills & Qualifications
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including experience in construction, development, or real estate accounting; prior Controller or Assistant Controller experience preferred.
  • CPA license strongly preferred; BS in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field required.
  • Strong understanding of job costing, WIP schedules, percentage-of-completion accounting, and construction/development-specific accounting practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. This is central to the role — our clients and partners rely on us to communicate with clarity and conviction, and we expect the Controller to carry that standard internally and externally.
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint); advanced Excel skills required.
  • Experience with construction/real estate accounting platforms (Sage 300 CRE, Vista, Procore, QuickBooks, or similar) strongly preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills and a demonstrated track record of building relationships across organizational lines.
  • Self-directed and highly motivated, with the judgment to operate with limited supervision.
  • Willingness to participate in an entrepreneurial environment and contribute to company growth.
  • Minimal travel required (occasional travel for banking, audit, or team meetings).
