As we grow our company, we need a Financial Controller who can build the financial discipline, clarity, and systems required to support that growth.
ABOUT THE ROLE
This is not a bookkeeper position.
This is not a passive role.
This is the financial engine of a fast-scaling company.
We are hiring a Financial Controller who will:
- Own the numbers
- Improve accuracy, profitability, and cash flow
- Build financial dashboards that leadership runs the company from
- Ensure job costing and GP% reporting reflects reality in the field
- Spot issues before leadership does
- Help design incentive structures that influence behavior and margins
- Support strategic decisions with real financial visibility
This role reports directly to the CEO and works closely with Operations.
THE PROBLEMS YOU’RE HERE TO SOLVE
1. Build financial clarity where there’s currently not
We need a financial system that gives clean, trusted numbers every week.
2. Fix and elevate job costing & project profitability
We need:
- Real GP%
- Job velocity reporting
- Spotting overruns early
3. Build dashboards for leadership to use weekly
You will build dashboards for:
- Job profitability
- Cash flow forecasting
- Ad spend ROI & attribution
- Weekly KPI reporting
4. Design the GP/Day incentive program
Work with the CEO to create a performance-pay system that:
- Rewards profitable, timely work
- Improves crew behavior
- Aligns incentives with business goals
- Strengthens margins across the board
5. Build a budgeting & forecasting system
Annual budgets aren’t enough — we want:
- Rolling forecasts
- Cash flow modeling
- Crew capacity modeling
- Profitability projections
6. Strengthen multi-state financial compliance
We operate in OR, KY, and TN — you will manage:
- Payroll requirements
- Unemployment insurance
- Workers comp
- Contractor tax rules
- State tax accounts
7. Own month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
Within 90 days you will:
- Build ample context around our niche and business model
- Review and revise our current financial systems and processes
- Map out and start developing accurate weekly dashboards for leadership to use
- Implement clear month-end processes
- Map spending leaks & inefficiencies
- Deliver consistent GP% and job velocity reports
- Create early versions of budgets & projections
Within 12 months you will:
- Raise overall profitability through insights and accountability
- Build incentive systems tied to measurable outcomes
- Create a financial operating system that scales
- Become a key strategic partner in the company’s growth
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Present proactive financial insights
- Support CEO in strategic decisions
- Improve financial performance & discipline
- Build dashboards (weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly)
- Track job profitability, crew performance, margins
- Build automated KPI reporting
- Create simple, accurate visuals for leadership
Job Costing & Profitability
- Maintain accurate job costing
- Work with Operations to fix overruns
- Improve margin consistency
Payroll & Compliance
- Manage multi-state payroll
- Handle unemployment, workers comp, and state filings
- Ensure accuracy across crews and states
Month-End/Year-End Close
- Timely reconciliations
- AP/AR oversight
- Reporting to CPA
Accounting & Systems
- Maintain QBO structure
- Improve financial workflows
- Automate where possible
- Protect accuracy and integrity of the financials
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 3–7+ years in Controller, Senior Accountant, or similar financial leadership role
- Deep proficiency with QuickBooks Online
- Strong construction/job-costing experience
- Familiarity with multi-state payroll
- Strong analytical, organization and communication skills
- Ability to work directly with CEO & leadership
- High accuracy and attention to detail
