Job description

Our start-up client poised for tremendous growth is seeking a hands-on, systems-oriented Controller with deep ecommerce experience and strong ERP discipline. The ideal candidate has operated in a high-growth product company processing thousands of ecommerce orders annually, understands inventory accounting across outsourced manufacturers, and can move the company from cash-basis to accrual accounting.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead transition from cash-basis to accrual accounting in compliance with U.S. GAAP
• Prepare monthly financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow)
• Own month-end close process
• Document accounting policies and implement internal controls
• Oversee AP, AR, payroll coordination, and GL integrity
• Manage external CPA relationship
• Serve as primary finance owner of Rootstock ERP
• Ensure accurate revenue recognition, inventory accounting, and COGS tracking
• Integrate and reconcile Shopify, ShipStation, Salesforce, and Rootstock systems
• Maintain system data integrity and scalable workflows

Ecommerce & Revenue Operations

• Manage high-volume ecommerce accounting (thousands of orders annually)
• Reconcile payment processors and merchant accounts
• Oversee returns, refunds, and fulfillment cost accounting

Inventory & Contract Manufacturing Accounting

• Account for inventory held at outsourced manufacturers
• Track raw materials, WIP, and finished goods
• Accurately calculate and report COGS
• Develop controls around consigned or third-party stored inventory

Compliance & Operational Controls

• Implement and manage employee expense system
• Develop scalable internal control framework
• Prepare company for potential audit or investor diligence

Required Qualifications

• CPA strongly preferred
• 7+ years progressive accounting experience
• Extensive ecommerce accounting experience (Shopify & ShipStation)
• Direct experience using Rootstock ERP preferred
• Experience converting cash to accrual accounting
• Strong outsourced manufacturing inventory accounting knowledge
• Experience managing multi-state sales tax compliance
