Job summary

Destination Sport is seeking a practical, commercially minded Controller to run the day-to-day accounting function and create dependable financial operations for a growing business.

The role combines hands-on ownership, team leadership, cash and working capital management, process improvement, and partnership with operational leaders, ensuring transactions are recorded correctly and reporting deadlines met.

Qualifications

• Progressive accounting experience with month-end close and financial reporting.
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Experience leading accounting teams.
• Experience with ERP systems and advanced Excel.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or related field.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day accounting and monthly/annual close.
• Oversee AP, AR, billing, collections, cash application, payroll interfaces, and GL.
• Review journals, reconciliations, accruals, prepayments, and balance sheet schedules.
• Produce monthly management accounts and explain variances to senior stakeholders.
• Manage cash reporting and working capital improvements.
• Coordinate external audits and tax support.
• Lead and coach accounting team; ensure controls and segregation of duties.
• Partner with operations to resolve financial issues and improve processes.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and finance system upgrades.

Role Purpose

This opportunity suits an accounting leader Who enjoys being close to the business. The Controller will ensure transactions are recorded correctly, issues are resolved quickly, reporting deadlines are met and finance processes scale as the organisation grows.

Operational

• Lead the day-to-day accounting function, owning the monthly and annual close process.
• Oversee AP, AR, billing, collections, cash application, payroll interfaces, and general ledger activities.
• Review journals, reconciliations, accruals, prepayments, and balance sheet schedules.
• Produce monthly management accounts and explain key variances to senior stakeholders.
• Manage cash reporting and improve working capital, billing accuracy, collections, and payment controls.
• Maintain robust accounting procedures, approval controls, and segregation of duties.
• Coordinate external audits, tax support, and compliance requirements.
• Lead, coach, and allocate work across the accounting team, driving accountability and service standards.
• Partner with operational and commercial teams to resolve financial issues and improve processes.
• Strengthen financial data, reporting, and documentation as the business evolves.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and business planning with accurate financial insight.
• Assist with finance systems upgrades, integrations, and process enhancements.

Experience

• Progressive accounting experience with direct responsibility for month-end close and financial reporting.
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP, general ledger accounting and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Experience managing core accounting functions, including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable and cash management.
• Previous experience leading, coaching and developing accounting teams.
• Ability to identify and implement process improvements while maintaining operational excellence.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience using ERP or accounting systems.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
