Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), provider of cutting-edge cloud-based integration, automated testing and data analysis for complex, mission-critical systems in the US Department of Defense (DOD), is seeking a Controller to be based in our Arlington, VA office. Leveraging advanced software automation, model-based systems engineering (MBSE), and AI-driven capabilities, IDT accelerates capability development, enhances operational readiness, and reduces lifecycle costs for the Department of Defense. The company is dedicated to transforming defense systems through innovation, efficiency, and mission-critical results.
Overview:
IDT is seeking a strong Controller who will be critical in leading and building a highly scalable, best-in-class accounting department. You will help develop and oversee the day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, payroll, month-end close, financial reporting, risk management, budgeting/forecasting support, collaboration with third-party stakeholders (e.g., tax, audit, legal, government, etc.), managing indirect rates, and compliance while ensuring an adequate control environment. The Controller role is an opportunity for someone who can combine strong accounting skills, business acumen, and strategic thinking to take on a leadership role at a high-growth business.
This role will interact heavily with executive leadership across the organization, driving change and efficiency and directly contributing to the successful execution of IDT’s long-term growth strategy.
This hybrid position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and requires 3-5 days in the office, depending on business needs.
All applicants must be able to obtain/maintain an active U.S. Security Clearance.
Responsibilities Include:
The Controller will play a key role in establishing and executing accounting operations. The ideal candidate will have traditional Controllership skills and be a proactive strategic thought partner with the CFO and senior management team.
Key job responsibilities:
Lead the development and scaling of a high-performing team, cultivating a data-driven culture, driving change and automation, ensuring transparency, and maintaining a strong focus on meeting the needs of both internal and external customers.
Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, payroll, month-end close, financial reporting, risk management, budgeting/forecasting support, collaboration with third-party stakeholders (e.g., tax, audit, legal, government, etc.), managing indirect rates, and compliance while ensuring an adequate control environment.
Manage the reporting of accurate financial statements in accordance with accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Ensure consistency in the monthly closing process, financial reporting, and analysis of monthly financial results.
Establish and maintain strong internal financial controls to ensure accurate reporting.
Responsible for transaction accuracy, compliance, and ensuring legal and regulatory compliance, including FAR and GAAP, regarding all accounting functions.
Lead preparation of annual indirect rate budgets, provide reporting, and support the development of forecasts.
Responsible for general ledger and balance sheet management.
Manage audits from external agencies, including DCAA, IRS, outside CPA firms, regulatory agencies, and Incurred Cost Submissions.
Oversee the timely submission of all federal, state, and local tax filing requirements, ensuring strict compliance with regulations.
Work with and build relationships with the executive team and business leaders.
Develop company-wide communication regarding accounting, compliance, and payroll-related matters.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
A minimum of a BS degree in accounting.
8 years of experience in accounting, including thorough knowledge of US GAAP.
3 years of experience as a Controller or Accounting Manager in a large organization.
3 years of experience in a government contracting or DoD environment to include knowledge of FAR, DFAR, CAS.
3 years’ experience leading and developing teams.
Advanced skills with formulas and complex financial spreadsheets in MS Excel.
Preferred Skills:
CPA active license.
3 years in public accounting.
Experience with Deltek CostPoint.
