Job summary

Ports North, a rapidly growing, family-owned North Texas organization, seeks an Interim Controller to partner with the CFO during a period of expansion. This hands-on leadership role requires taking ownership of accounting operations and delivering immediate impact with minimal onboarding.

You'll inherit a stable environment, lead a lean accounting team, and support a business that has doubled in size, with potential for ongoing project-based or fractional work after the permanent Controller is

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Controller or Interim Controller in SMB environment.
• Ownership of month-end close and financial reporting.
• Hands-on AP, AR, collections, billing, and cash flow management.
• Journal entry review and general ledger management.
• Sales tax compliance.
• Vendor onboarding and credit reviews.
• Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
• Experience with QuickBooks Online.
• Strong understanding of accounting processes, controls, and operational finance.

Responsibilities

• Lead accounting operations and partner with CFO.
• Oversee month-end close and financial reporting.
• Manage AP, AR, collections, billing, and cash flow.
• Review journal entries and maintain GL.
• Ensure accurate sales tax compliance.

About the Opportunity

This is a highly visible, hands‑on leadership role for a seasoned consultant who can quickly step in, take ownership of accounting operations, and make an immediate impact without extensive onboarding.

You’ll inherit a stable environment, lead a lean accounting team, and help support a business that has doubled in size and is positioned for continued growth. The engagement is expected to be full‑time initially, with potential for ongoing project‑based or fractional consulting work after the permanent Controller is hired.

Must‑Haves

• Proven experience serving as a Controller or Interim Controller in a small‑to‑mid‑sized company environment.
• Hands‑on ownership of:
  • Month‑end close and financial reporting
  • AP, AR, collections, billing, and cash flow management
  • Journal entry review and general ledger management
  • Sales tax compliance
  • Vendor onboarding and credit reviews
• Ability to work independently with minimal oversight and integrate into a lean, entrepreneurial team.
• Experience managing accounting operations in QuickBooks Online.
• Strong understanding of accounting processes, controls, and operational finance.

Nice‑to‑Haves

• Cost accounting experience, particularly within manufacturing, construction, building materials, or related industries.
• Experience with AP automation tools (e.g., Stampli) and operational systems integrations.
• Background supporting high‑growth organizations.
• CPA preferred but not required.
