Job description

Grain Processing Corporation (GPC), a member of the KENT WORLDWIDE™ family of companies, is looking for a Control Systems Superintendent to lead our Instrumentation and Controls team in Washington, Indiana. In this role, you will drive the reliability, safety, and performance of plant control systems while leading improvement initiatives, supporting capital projects, and developing the next generation of technical talent. You'll work closely with Maintenance, Production, and Engineering teams to solve complex challenges, implement new technologies, and help shape the future of our operation.   • This position is designed and intended to be performed in Washington, Indiana.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead the site's Instrumentation and Controls team, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and day-to-day leadership to support safe and reliable operations.
  • Serve as the facility's subject matter expert for control systems, instrumentation, automation technologies, and operational technology (OT) systems.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve preventive and predictive maintenance strategies to maximize equipment reliability and performance.
  • Troubleshoot complex instrumentation and control system issues while partnering with Maintenance, Production, and Engineering teams to drive timely resolutions.
  • Lead capital, reliability, and continuous improvement projects from concept through implementation, including contractor oversight and competitive bid management.
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies, system upgrades, and design improvements that enhance operational efficiency, reliability, and safety.
  • Create, maintain, and communicate technical documentation, standards, procedures, and training materials to support long-term operational success.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and company standards while managing project budgets, capital requests, and continuous improvement initiatives.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND/OR QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Automation, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, or a related technical discipline; equivalent combinations of education and directly relevant experience will be considered.
  • 10+ years of experience supporting industrial control systems, including PLCs, DCSs, HMIs, instrumentation, and automation systems within a manufacturing or process industry environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading instrumentation, controls, automation, or reliability initiatives, including capital projects, system upgrades, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop technical teams while building strong partnerships across Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, and contractor organizations.
  • Strong troubleshooting mindset with a passion for diagnosing complex technical issues, improving system reliability, and driving operational performance.
  • Hands‑on expertise with industrial communication networks and protocols such as Ethernet/IP, HART, DeviceNet, Profibus, DH+, or similar control system architectures.
  • Comfortable operating as both a strategic leader and technical contributor, balancing project leadership, team development, and day‑to‑day plant support.
  • Effective communicator with strong project management, organizational, and training capabilities who can influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
TRAVEL EXPECTED:

Ability to travel up to 10% as needed.
