Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled Control System Engineer to specify, design, and validate complex sub-systems, focusing on high-level requirements for software and hardware components within control systems. The ideal candidate will have experience with control system design and validation, and will work in a hybrid environment with some travel required for on-site integration sessions.

This position offers a dynamic, fast-paced working environment where the engineer will play a key role in ensuring the control system’s functional performance aligns with validated requirements, while adhering to project timelines and quality standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Requirements Analysis & Validation: Collaborate with stakeholders to evaluate and agree on control system requirements. Capture evidence of requirement validation, including use cases, design constraints, safety, and security attributes, in models and work products.
  • System Design & Testing: Develop and review control system tests to validate that the system meets the defined requirements. Allocate control system requirements to test vehicles as per the verification plan.
  • System Behavior Analysis: Perform analysis of control system functional behavior using modelling and simulation tools to demonstrate compliance with validated requirements.
  • Problem Resolution: Provide targeted testing of control system functionality to support problem investigations, closures, and addressing customer issues. Work cross-functionally to ensure effective development workflows and fault detection/accommodation in the system.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other engineering disciplines to understand the performance capabilities of components within the system and to facilitate successful integration.
  • Documentation: Produce detailed reports to document all aspects of the work carried out, including design, validation, and verification processes.
  • Continuous Improvement: Ensure the system detects and accommodates faults with the guidance of Control System Specialists, while also identifying and managing risks in collaboration with the team.

Key Skills:

  • Controls Systems Experience: Expertise in software-centric control systems (HVAC, Engine, Brake Systems, Gas Turbine).
  • System Requirement Development: Experience in developing electronic engine control systems, with the ability to transfer these skills to modelling tools such as Cameo.
  • Configuration Management: Strong attention to detail in tracking and managing systems throughout the development lifecycle.

Qualifications:

  • Technical Knowledge: Proven experience with aircraft engine interfaces, component technology, and behavior during both normal and abnormal operations. Familiarity with the software and hardware development process constraints is essential.
  • Cross-Disciplinary Understanding: A working appreciation of other engineering disciplines, including their roles in system development and integration.
  • Modelling & Simulation Tools: Proficiency in using design and analysis tools, particularly Cameo System Modeler, to support system design, testing, and validation.
  • Problem-Solving & Risk Management: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to interpret test results and provide well-informed conclusions. Ability to identify, manage, and communicate risks effectively.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate complex technical ideas clearly, both in written reports and verbally, to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaboration & Teamwork: Experience working in multidisciplinary teams, coordinating with engineers, scientists, and other stakeholders to drive system development forward.
  • U.S. Citizenship Required for this role due to U.S. Department of Defense guidelines.
  • Military Experience Equivalency may substitute for some requirements.
