Georgia-Pacific LLC seeks aControl Systems Engineer to join our Perdue Hill, AL plant. You will serve as a technical SME for process control, design and implement control improvements, and mentor colleagues while driving safety, sustainability, and reliability in controls.

The role covers both DCS and PLC systems across the mill, with opportunities to advance process systems to new levels of technology in support of advanced manufacturing, under minimal supervision in a team environment.

Qualifications

  • 5–10 years of demonstrated experience in Process Control / Automation including architecture and configuration.
  • DCS or PLC programming background (including HMI programming).
  • Familiarity with reviewing basic loop sheets and/or P&ID's.

Responsibilities

  • Implement, design, and configure advanced process control systems; maintain functional design specs for DCS, PLC, and VFD.
  • Troubleshoot paper machine finishing and converting systems (Winder, Calendar Reel, Wrapline).
  • Support optimization and Advanced Process Control implementations across mill areas.
  • Troubleshoot installed systems to improve effectiveness and efficiency in process operations.
  • Act as project resource for installation of new instrumentation or control/automation systems.
  • Partner with corporate teams to implement new technologies for advanced manufacturing.
  • Support the mill safety program through personal and observed actions.
  • Collaborate with mill personnel to identify opportunities and solve problems.

The desired candidate must also be passionate about mentoring and demonstrate economic thinking & problem-solving skills. This position supports both DCS and PLC systems throughout the mill and will be responsible for designing and implementing control improvements while working with others to maintain and troubleshoot the mill's control systems. We are looking for an individual who will assist with the development of process control systems that will allow Alabama River to advance its current process systems to new levels of technology to support advanced manufacturing. The ideal candidate will have a strong desire to promote mill and company safety culture as a value while working on improving our processes, sustainability, and reliability in controls. What You Will Do


  • Implement, design, and configure advance process control systems. Maintain functional design specifications for process control systems including DCS, PLC, and VFD.

  • Troubleshoot paper machine finishing and converting systems including Winder, Calendar Reel, and Wrapline operation.

  • Support optimization and Advanced Process Control implementation efforts for different areas of the mill.

  • Support process operations by troubleshooting installed systems to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of these systems.

  • Act as a project resource in installation of new instrumentation or control/automation systems.

  • Partner with corporate teams to implement new technologies that support advanced manufacturing.

  • Support of the mill safety program both personally and through observation.

  • Work closely with mill personnel to identify opportunities and solve problems.



Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)


  • At least five (5-10) years of demonstrated experience in Process Control / Automation systems including architecture and configuration

  • DCS or PLC programming background (including HMI programming background).

  • Familiarity with reviewing basic loop sheets and/or P&ID's.

  • Read, interpret, and develop control documentation and schematics.

  • Knowledge of standard MS office suite



What Will Put You Ahead


  • 20+ years of experience in pulp and paper manufacturing

  • Advanced knowledge of paper machine finishing and converting systems is a plus.

  • Experience with Foxboro DCS

  • Experience with Allen Bradley ControlLogix Experience in installing/troubleshooting electrical and instrumentation including field devices for control, communication protocols, and Allen Bradley VFD

  • Experience in project support - scope and estimate development, cost control, and schedule adherence.

  • Alarm Management, Allen Bradley Asset, Centre, High Performance HMI

  • Experience mentoring and developing Junior Engineers and Electrical Technicians

  • Information Technology and Networking experience
