Job summary

Georgia-Pacific is seeking a Control Systems Engineer to join our team at the Alabama River Plant in Perdue Hill, AL. The role focuses on designing and implementing control improvements across DCS and PLC systems while mentoring others and promoting safety and reliability.

You will work with mill personnel to troubleshoot controls, participate in Advanced Process Control initiatives, and collaborate with corporate teams to apply new technologies for improved manufacturing performance.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years of experience in Process Control / Automation systems including architecture and configuration.
• Familiarity with reviewing basic loop sheets and/or P&ID’s.
• Read, interpret, and develop control documentation and schematics.
• Knowledge of standard MS Office suite.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot paper machine finishing and converting systems such as Winder, Calendar Reel, and Wrapline operation.
• Support optimization and Advanced Process Control implementation efforts for mill areas.

• Act as a project resource in installation of new instrumentation or control/automation systems.
• Partner with corporate teams to implement new technologies that support advanced manufacturing.
• Support the mill safety program both personally and through observation.

Job description

Georgia Pacific is seeking a Control Systems Engineer to join our team in Perdue Hill, AL Alabama River Plant who can be an additional technical subject matter expert for Process Control systems at our facility. The desired candidate must also be passionate about mentoring and demonstrate economic thinking & problem-solving skills. This position supports both DCS and PLC systems throughout the mill and will be responsible for designing and implementing control improvements while working with others to maintain and troubleshoot the mill’s control systems. We are looking for an individual who will assist with the development of process control systems that will allow Alabama River to advance its current process systems to new levels of technology to support advanced manufacturing. The ideal candidate will have a strong desire to promote mill and company safety culture as a value while working on improving our processes, sustainability, and reliability in controls. What You Will Do

• Implement, design, and configure advance process control systems. Maintain functional design specifications for process control systems including DCS, PLC, and VFD.
• Troubleshoot paper machine finishing and converting systems including Winder, Calendar Reel, and Wrapline operation.
• Support optimization and Advanced Process Control implementation efforts for different areas of the mill.
• Support process operations by troubleshooting installed systems to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of these systems.
• Act as a project resource in installation of new instrumentation or control/automation systems.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

• At least five (5-10) years of demonstrated experience in Process Control / Automation systems including architecture and configuration
• Familiarity withreviewing basic loop sheets and/or P&ID’s.
• Read, interpret, and develop control documentation and schematics.
• Knowledge of standard MS office suite

What Will Put You Ahead

• 20+ years of experience in pulp and paper manufacturing
• Advanced knowledge of paper machine finishing and converting systems is a plus.
• Experience with Foxboro DCS
• Experience with Allen Bradley ControlLogix Experience in installing/troubleshooting electrical and instrumentation including field devices for control, communication protocols, and Allen Bradley VFD
• Experience in project support - scope and estimate development, cost control, and schedule adherence.
• Alarm Management, Allen Bradley Asset, Centre, High Performance HMI
• Experience mentoring and developing Junior Engineers and Electrical Technicians
• Information Technology and Networking experience
