Qualifications

  • Two or more years of supervisory experience in manufacturing or heavy industry.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Kronos experience is a plus.

  • Support maintenance planning, outage execution, and asset reliability efforts by aligning priorities to value at stake, risk reduction, and sustainable equipment performance.
  • Develop and maintain operating procedures, troubleshooting guides, and training materials that help crews apply principles, build capability, and make better decisions.
  • Coach and train operators to improve knowledge, judgment, ownership, and contribution, helping employees self-actualize and strengthen comparative advantage.
  • Lead or support continuous improvement and capital projects with a principled entrepreneurship mindset: challenge current practices, seek better methods, and learn from results.
  • Support disciplined operations and standard work across all crews while encouraging respectful challenge, bottom-up knowledge sharing, and continual improvement when better approaches are identified.
  • Communicate clearly with operations, maintenance, engineering, and leadership to create shared understanding, remove barriers, and drive mutual benefit across work groups.

Your Job

The Pulp Mill Technical Assistant supports the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of the Pulp Mill through a PBM mindset focused on long-term value creation, stewardship, and mutual benefit. This role provides technical leadership for process improvement, equipment reliability, maintenance prioritization, operator development, and continuous improvement initiatives.

The position works closely with operators, crew leaders, maintenance, and engineering teams to improve safety, production, quality, and operating performance. It requires building shared understanding of roles, responsibilities, expectations, and decision rights so work is done by those with the best knowledge and closest connection to the opportunity or risk.

Our Team

Georgia-Pacific's Toledo, OR site manufactures linerboard and corrugated medium on three paper machines, using virgin and recycled fiber. The mill employs approximately 450 people and focuses on safe, sustainable, reliable operations. Our culture is grounded in integrity, respect, and mutual benefit. Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Two (2) or more years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing, heavy industrial, or military environment
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
What Will Put You Ahead
  • Associates Degree or higher in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, or a related field
  • Experience coaching and mentoring employees to improve their knowledge and skills, as well as performance
  • Working knowledge of paper machine operation
  • Experience using Kronos
  • Experience communicating (written and orally), and presenting to individual contributors to senior management
